Hello,
We are going to Disney May 6-11th and was wondering when we should purchase our tickets? Also we have 6yr old triplets -- any suggestions on traveling with kids? We've never been, this would be our first time. We're also waiting to decide weather or not we're going to fly or drive....
thanks!

You can buy your tickets anytime, but I would purchase them ahead of time, as they are cheaper that way. Get a subscription to mousesavers newsletter, and they have a link to get them for a reduced price.

About the transportation question, it really depends on the kids... If you feel comfy with a road trip with the 6 yr olds, go for it. We drove from WV to WDW in Dec and had a great trip... you're not too much farther. But be sure you take your time and give yourself two days to drive down. If you try to drive it all in one day you will go crazy!!

Have a great time!!!

Welcome - 6yo is a wonderful age for the magic of disney.

As far as the ticket purchase there is a discount for advance purchase so that is what we do. For some great information and comparisons try here:

We are in DE (5 minutes from Elkton, MD!!), we drove in December and we are driving again in February. We prefer driving because we have the control over our travel and because its cheaper with a family of 4 compared to airfare and rental car costs. The downside is mostly that it does take 4 days off our "vacation' time. We make it an adventure and having a DVD player in the car helps. We left at 4am to make it through DC prior to rush hour and then stopped in Savannah GA early enough for dinner and some fun and then got on our way early the next day for the final leg. My dd's also have gameboys that they are not allowed to play much so having free access helped us all, LOL.

If you are going to fly SWA has some great deals on flights from Pilly that may be an option.

I stumbled across a thread about WDW with multiples you may find helpful, just scroll up and down here.

Allears also has a great section on WDW with the 5-11 yo set here:

I am sure you will have many more great questions and lots of fun planning so welcome and hope to hear from you again.

Hi--thanks for the tips, but I just secured Southwest Airfare for all five of us roundtrip, non stop from BWI to MCO for $485 !!! I couldn't believe it. The DING from Southwest came through! Thanks for the link too!

Wow - that is terrific for a family of 6, probably cheaper than driving when you figure in the hotel !

I forgot to mention mousesavers.com for great info on ticket deals and some discount codes for rental cars.

Hi! We have almost 3 yo twins & a 2 year old so I feel ya! We prefer to drive from NY. The times we have flew were just too stressful- and too much luggage!!!!! Have a great trip!!!!

We did the disney trip this fall with our 6 yr old triplets and 8 yr old. I sent you a privete message, but if you don't get that just email me and I will give you the scoop. I just did a class on going to WDW without going broke at my church last night.

ASAP They raise prices at least twice a year. They won't expire or at least begin expiring in some cases until first use. So purchase ASAP We had 11 going and I got ours 18 months ahead but saved alot cuz prices raised 3 times before we went. Go through Disney if possible, not an agent. Recommend the hopper passes if your budget works with them. we did 5 day ones. A park a day with everyone keeping notes on their most fav. things and 5th day decide what you would like to again or more of and use it for that. :) Everyone should check around and see if their community college or somewhere offers a planning class. I went for 3 hours for a cost of 14 dollars and planned a trip for eleven. Got tips on park attendence levels -so avoided certain parks on their documented busiest days and soooo many little relatively unknown tips to save time and money and fun stuff like about looking for hidden mickeys, what characters signature was most rare, things like that. My profile has my e-mail and I would be willing to tell anyone what i know if they'd like. :) I love Disney but you need to know how to work the system or your wallet can get worked out way more than is necessary!!!
