Hi everyone :wave2:

Can anyone tell me when the best time is to plant bulbs for spring blossoming? Also which bulbs are easiest to take care of?
I'd really like for my flower beds to have actual flowers next year :p

background info: The flowers I've had this year have been hanging baskets. So I know nothing about planting or watering or what type of soil is best. I'll welcome any and all advice you can give :)

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the F/G Board 2bMarried.

Well, from what I hear, now is the time to plant. From now until Thanksgiving.

Daffodils are easy. The only thing I don't like about them is you have to leave the leaves alone for ... like... forever, or so it seems.

Yup, now is the time. i have been known to plant my bulbs while my turkey cooks.
It's such an easy way to get color, enjoy.

Most of may bulbs are planted. I live in New England and sometimes winter can set in too fast, so October is a good month. We did get a frost last week. Things are starting to look worn and shabby. It was time to remove the annuals and prepare the beds for their winter snooze.

I'm sure your growing season is a little longer then ours. By the end of October I'd think about planting bulbs.

Thanks everyone!!!! I'm going to start planting next weekend. That gives me this week to research which ones are best for this area and of those which ones are easiest to take care of :teeth:

Welcome tobemarried (and now blissfully wed!) :) :flower3:

You're in Cary, North Carolina, right? According to Bulb.com, you're in the South Atlantic Coastal region (zones 7&8), as far as bulb planting goes. :) Actually, you're close to bordering the Appalachian region too! :)

Lucky you, you'll be able to plant bulbs right up to (and probably a bit later) Dec. 15th.

Check out the following link, it's got tons of good info on bulbs. :)

The neighborhood kids and I planted 200 bulbs at the neighborhoods entrance this afternoon....hopefully it will look awesome for them in the spring.

I'll be buying bulbs this week. And planting this week-end in Oklahoma. Do I need the planting tool?

it depends on how loose your soil is...if it's hard, it is just easier to use a shovel...besides, those tools dont make much of a hole and I like to put in lots of bulbs in one hole.

I have rather sandy soil. And I have a shovel, so I will have more money to spend on bulbs. Thanks for the info

Mamu said" Most of my bulbs are planted."

then Amid Chaos said "I planted 200 bulbs at the neighborhoods entrance this afternoon"

I haven't even bought mine yet!!

You're very lucky! We have red clay here, so I have to dig all of it up and then put down soil for planting.
