When to OOP and when to DDP

Someone advise me, please!

When signing up for TS choices on the DDP, and wanting to include Signature 2 credit choices, have you ever done one person on the plan and the other OOP? What would be the advantage/disadvantage? For example. I am looking at CRT lunch, one OOP and one DDP (2credits) and Cali Grill Dinner, one OOP and one DDP. I figure the OOP at CRT is a fixed $ but with Cali, I don't see using 2 credits for dessert and main course really being worth it. If only b/c we would rather get appetizers and 1st course choices and "split" a main and dessert... This is also DH big bday dinner (on his bday) and I would like to think he might get a comp dessert (even ice cream -- We got a free "anniversary" dessert at a sig restaurant this past Nov. And we definitely didn't need three desserts! ) What do you think about this strategy? I am basically trying to decide which choices make sense OOP. I have seen threads on this topic, but not necessarily "doing 1/2 and 1/2" at the same meal.... We have ADR at CM as well, and while I would pay OOP for that, I would still be back in the same boat, with entrees and dessert... Help?!!

I like your question and I'm probably not the best person to answer it. But I think your strategy will work fine, especially if you are going to split an entree at Cali grill. If that's the case, then using 2 TS instead of 4 will work great. However, if you think you both want an entree, then I would use the 4 TS there and pay OOP for CRT.

I ate at Cali grill in December and my entree was definately not that big. I don't think I would have wanted to split it. I found that the portion size was perfect at Cali grill, but not quite enough to split. I had scallops, by the way, and a beautiful salad for an appe. We split dessert. We used the DDE (now Tables in wonderland), not the DDP.

I suppose you could do it, but I'm not sure it'll be worth it.

We split two checks, where we paid OOP for one meal and then DDP'd the other (at Chefs) and then did the reverse paying for all meals OOP except for one on the DDP (at 50s P/T). In both cases, the CMs had minor issues with running the check through that way. I'm not sure why, and both were really nice about it, but they did mention that the system made this a challenge.

The other thing is that generally, you're not getting top value on your TS credits if you use them at a signature place if you're on the basic DDP.

Sorry I can't be more help. If you want to do it, you should. But if it were me, I'd just pay OOP for the signature meal and then do another TS meal if I had those credits.

Yeah this is why I was trying to figure it out. It doesn't make sense to use the double credits on a signature restaurant, especially just for dessert and a main, but I don't necessarily want to just pay OOP. It seems not worth it for CRT, since that is a "fixed" cost... but I wasn't sure about the other restaurants. Especially since I can get dinner for 2 for the credits on one at Cali. I also know the entrees are not large, and I know the appetizers and other courses are just as interesting to us, so we would rather mix and match there anyway.

So thanks!;)

I am not sure if you'll be allowed to use 2TS for 2 adults on the DP to eat at CG. If you plan to share that is probably the place to pay OOP and save all 4TS credits.

seems to me it would make sense to pay OOP for the least expensive meal...freeing up that TS credit to use at a sig restaurant. i think that would make you pay the least amount OOP. if you have 2 sig meals, pay the two cheapest OOP.

So you don't think one person could be a DDP and one OOP? I am so on the fence about this... It all stems from wanting to eat other things off the menu, not necessarily what is on the plan, which is why I can't decide. we have had dinner at CG before. But w/o the DDP. So I guess I will just make the ressies, and make an extra one if we decide to go OOP for the whole thing..

Thanks for your advice! ;)

One on and one off shouldn't be an issue. Its the sharing by two on the DP that could get sticky, just not sure how they'll handle that and if you've budgeted credits assuming yes and they say no, big disappointment for you.
