When to make hotel reservations

After going back and forth for months about where to stay, I now have my heart set on Embassy Suites South because I think it will be nice for our anniversary DLR visit in June

I'm now wondering when should I make reservations? How early do you make them? I'm nervous about booking too soon and then a better deal comes along, or waiting too long and not getting a room there. Also, the VERY best deal is non-refundable and you can't change it. I'm thinking of booking it in Dec or Jan. Just wondering what other people do.

I booked our June trip at HoJo's this week when the ent rate was released.....it may be early, but the nice thing is, I can always cancel there if needed. I don't think I have ever booked any non-refundable nights anywhere...I'm just too paranoid.

I guess if you can cancel, that makes sense. I booked non refundable rooms last trip but I made them about 2 weeks before we left. It was a trip that snowballed at the last minute.

I try and book at least 7 months ahead, the hotels aren't full at that stage and I have found them more inclined to be negotiable on price. Also you are getting the rooms at todays price and not what the price will be by the time you go. We are going in July 2009 and will cofirm and book our hotel by early December

Hmmm... Guess I should do this in December then. I think I would be too antsy to wait longer. I keep changing my mind about the dates too. So have to make sure about that.

I have booked our accomodation 8 months in advance.
