We do it the opposite!! I'm such a chicken (well not so much a chicken - I got serious motion sickness on many rides!)
My DD9 rides the rides alone that I don't like and I WAIT by the exit. Different I know since WDW is like the neighborhood playground for her and she is VERY comfortable in her surroundings! I do not feel uneasy at all doing this - some queues I will wait with her, others I just go immediately to the exit while she gets in line.
