I know a lot of you buy and sell on Ebay. I've got a question......I sold an item and the lady emailed me 7 days later and said she couldn't afford it now and to relist it, thanks for understanding. (It was a Christmas type of gift and it's almost too late to relist at this time). My question is should I leave negative feedback? I'm afraid she will turn around and leave negative for me if I do.

When was this?

First I would email her back and tell her you are sorry but you bid you pay (or soemthing to that effect.) Then if she still is refusing to pay I would go in and file a unpaid item dispute. Then if she doesn't pay within the next 7 days, go in close the dispute and you will get your final value fees refunded. There is NO WAY I would let this buyer walk away without a nonpaying mark against there account. If they did it to you I am sure they will do it to others too. This is NOT someone that we want on eBay.

After you have filed and closed the dispute I would deffiently leave a negative FB.

If it was me i would write to her and let her know you need payment for this item, that she bid and it is a legal obligation now for her to pay. If she doesnt within a reasonable amount of tim and i say reasonable im thinking 24 hours since she already slacked on it for 7 days} File a nonpay with ebay.
If she leaves you negative feedback offer in the responce section to her comment for anyone to email you for a copy of your file against her.

I would absolutely go through the whole EBAY process. They will send her a notice with so much time to pay and, if she doesn't, you will get your listing cost back. There is waiting periods for this process, though, so it'll take some time to get you cost back (I forget how long exactly). EBAY will have on their records a strike against her. You can, at that point, leave negative feedback if you'd like.

I'm having the same type problem, but my item is a time specific item. The item must be used by December 30 or it expires. To make matters worse, we leave for Disney on Thursday and I don't know what to do.

I totally agree with Disneychrista! We need to get these people off of ebay. I recently had a non-paying bidder. After she didn't pay, I checked her feedback. She had several other non-paying complaints. I filed my claim and tried to leave her a negative, but ebay beat me to it. I think they closed her account.
I know how you feel. Why bid if you can't pay!

I had a nonpaying bidder recently who gave me all kinds of excuses for not paying and I was stupid enough to give them more and more time, and by the time I finally figured out they were stiffing me it was too late to file it with ebay. Not wanting them to get away with a clean record, I left a negative feedback, and they responded with negative feedback against me, ruining my 100% rating.
Sure makes me miffed.

So in order to get the fees returned, you just have to file a non-paying bid alert? Or is there more? Thanks for all the replies. I'm surprised at this one she has 650 positives and no negatives.

Here is a some correspondence from a few years ago. Something like this may help.

Dear Mr. X:

I am sorry that you feel you are unable to honor your obligation. You have asked that I relist the item for sale. As you may be aware, I have already paid eBay the listing fee, gallery fee, and commission on sale. As the sale has been made, to list this again I would have to pay another listing fee, another gallery fee, and IF it sells, another commission. This is a Christmas-type item, and we basically have passed this year's Christmas season.

My husband, who is the security officer for a large federal accounting system, has told me that normally a person is held responsible for any actions taken with their User ID and Password. If another person enters the system with their User ID and password, it is either with the expectation that the owner will take full responsibility, or that the person hacked or stole the password and will be subject to criminal action. We assume that you do not want to take criminal action against your daughter, and so are willing to accept full responsibility for her actions.

At least she has only obligated you to a small ($9.99 + $5.00 shipping) amount, rather than something in the hundred dollar range. This may be a good time to give her a lesson in taking responsibility for one's actions. We assume that she receives an allowance, and/or has also been putting money away for a particular purpose. She should be aware that she has to use her own money to make the payments, and thus do without something else she wanted to spend money on.

I have noticed that you are a new user, with a positive feedback rating of six. I would hate to have to give you a negative feedback with a statement such as: "States daughter made bid. Refused to pay." as well as reporting this correspondence to eBay's Safe Harbor.

As I said before, I will not release you from this obligation. Please let me know promptly if you will be sending a check, a money order, or making payment by PayPal.

Sincerely yours, Judy

dear judy

first i wanna thank you for being so kind and understanding!!! second ill handle my daughter the way i want ok!!!! you will get you check

merry christmas thanks for being so nice!!!!!

Non-paying winning bidders is something we all just have to put up with.

You may in the future state in your listing that bidders need such and such good feedback otherwise you will quickly cancel their bid (you can).

You can also state in your listing that you expect payment in a very short time frame such as three days (need to accept PayPal or some no-fee-to-buyer electronic method) otherwise the buyer gets his negative feedback right then and there.l

If the phone is needed to complete the payment by credit card in your short time frame and you refuse a collect call, your time frame is void and the buyer can say the check's in the mail and you may not leave negative feedback yet.

The filing of the unpaid item is the FIRST STEP in getting your fees. After 7 - 8 days, you must go in and close the dispute. When you go to close it it will give you several choices to pick from. If they have not paid, you choose no longer want to wait for payment. This is where you will get your fees back.

Having a non-payer is a hassle (to say the least). It takes 21 full days from end of auction to close and be done with the the buyer. And you have to wait this 21 days until you can reslist IF you want to get credit as it being a relist and get your listing fee refunded if it sells the second time.

I have a 100% also, but if I ran across a jerk/fraud, that could vanish through no fault of mine. An earlier poster mentioned a very legitimate emotional response in being miffed at losing a 100% positive record. I am in no way dissing or flaming anyone here, just offering an alternative view that if we are going to do business in a non face-to-face manner, we cannot control 100% of the participants and therefore 100% is nice while it lasts but anyone with experience and perspective can understand that 98% or something like that probably tells us more about the couple of deadbeats than it does the person with that number.

I went almost to a deadline negotiating with someone who had seriously failed to properly package an antique plate and would not offer insurance to me as a buyer, then dragged feet in responding to a request for a refund. I finally got a refund--after my "to protect my rights and in the interest of honest disclosure I will be leaving negative feedback if I have not had a satisfactory resolution from you w/i 24 hours" email. I just think she was clueless, honestly. I have even made good on bids when I realized, after the fact, that I had mis-read the listing and the item was not something I wanted. Hey, my word is my bond. And I did spoil one seller's 100% when it took two months to receive an item after I paid for it by PayPal--she kept telling me there must be something wrong with my address info, that the post office could not deliver to me as I gave it to her and it kept getting returned to her and insufficient address. I kept explaining that I had given her my full and complete law office address and that we received dozens of packages daily using the same address info. She kept telling me that none of this was her fault, that she was merely obligated to take the package to the post office. Uh, no. i suggested she try FedEx, UPS, Airborne...and her excuse was that she lived in a rural area and I shouldn't expect her to have access to "big city" things like that. I did finally get the item. I have absolutely no idea what went on, but it was a thoroughly unsatisfying experience and I dinged her for it. She then tried to b*tch me out in an email, complaining that she had given me good feedback and I had ruined her 100% rating. My only response was that her business (she had over a thousand transactions, this was a business and not a hobby) was only as good as her shipper and that was her responsibility, and I earned a good feedback listing by paying promptly, and did she really expect good feedback for taking two months to get something to me from a couple states away. And besides, probably no one wasn't going to buy from her because of my one negative against a thousand positives.

Follow the procedures, fear not the b.s. revenge negative feedback, and be honest. My Two cents.
