Well, it looks like we are leaning towards going close to Easter instead of early August. The biggest deterrent is the heat in August. Now the question is should we stay at a hotel that includes FoTL. Are the crowds, heat and humidity going to be enough to warrant the extra cost? We are from Washington state so that time of year will not be an easy time. There are four adults.

If you are going anywhere near the week before or the week after Easter, you are going to want to stay onsite at a deluxe resort that offers the unlimited express pass.Crowds those weeks are quite large and wait times can be significant.

Definetely go for one of the deluxe hotels with EP.

It will be very busy.

i haven't looked at prices for the Easter period for staying onsite.

check it out and book way in advance before there are any increases.
the closer you get to the stay date, less discounts and higher rates can happen.
not always the case but prepare for the worse.

the deluxe rooms allows 2 adults and 3 under age 18 at no additional costs.

you can have 4 adults in the deluxe rooms but you pay a surcharge of $25 for each extra adult per night of your stay.
that would be $50 per night in your case including the basic room charge.

you can check the past thread of "date and rate" (when are you going) to get an idea of what others booked for a rate and prepare yourself in advance while looking.

August really isn't a that bad. Yes it's hot but there are enough water rides and indoor attractions to keep you cooled off. I personally go for lower crowds over weather.

I haven't been to Uni or WDW in August, but my mom lived in Miami for a few years and that was during my summer break from college and I visited. Just walk slow, stay hydrated, dress properly (wicking material is great vs cotton), take advantage of air conditioning, and it's doable.

Be sure to check out all the costs. Airfare, hotels, etc. Before making the decision. it would be no fun to choose Eastertime and then find out that airfare is impossible!

Either way, IMO, choose the hotels with unlimited Express Pass.

I love the posters on this forum you are so much ;) You make me smile. I do have more questions now. Ok, now we are talking August. Are there any promo codes for summer? Do you all still recommend staying at one of the Lowes Hotels to get the FoTL pass?

Thank you so, so much!

Not sure there are any specific August promos. You can check, when closer to date, for annual pass discount. Use the code APH when on the hotel website. Works on all 4 hotels. Only need one power pass or more expensive one to get the AP rate. Also, for the last several years, there has been a stay more, save more rate. I think the minimum was 3 days to get the discount and the discount is higher the more nights you stay. Lastly, I booked a magical travel deal from a travel agency that was for a rate even better than my AP rate this August.

We have been traveling in August for several years and enjoy Universal. We always stay at one of the 3 onsite hotels. That unlimited express pass is great even in the later part of summer.

we love you too.

no summer promos out yet.

i only stay onsite at the loews deluxe hotels for the convenience of being so close to the parks and city walk.
easy to come and go during the day.
it's a time saver.

you can get some real hot days in august.
staying on site makes it so easy to return to the hotel for time in the pool.

We went last August ( 18-23)..It was still busy, but not crazy like the weeks before, and definitely lower crowds than the weeks surrounding Easter. .STAY onsite in a deluxe .It was SOOOO nice ( and easy) to go back to the resort to swim at the hottest part of the day and the express pass was worth every penny. It is quite hot and humid, but we made sure to stay hydrated and go back to the resorts to relax when it was so hot
