When to go to Parks

My husband and I are going to drive up from San Diego on Friday. We were planning on hitting the parks around 5:00. Is this crazy? Should we wait until the next morning? We are just going to concentrate on Disneyland, so I was thinking that we could just go in that evening and maybe see some of the shows and Fantasmic and then go back early in the morning to hit the rides that are overcrowded from us getting there so late. Any thoughts are appreciated.

The first evening we go there for our last visit to the parks, we went right away instead of waiting until morning. We had enough days on our Park Hopper pass that we could justify it. We just spent about 3 hours or so there, but it was worth it- we went on our favorite rides (the first time) and just got in the mood for more in the morning. I'd say if you have the time on your Park Hopper- GO FOR IT!
