Hi all, we're planning to go to DL on the Tuesday after Labor Day following the DL Half. WOC is at 8:15 that evening, but DCA closes at 8. We were planning on starting at DCA, then going to DL for the afternoon/evening. What is the latest you would recommend going back over to DCA for WOC?

Thanks for any tips! This is my first trip to DLR in about 15 years :)

I'm of mixed emotions about World of Color; I finally saw it from a pretty good location recently and thought that the show was well worth seeing. Prior to that, I'd seen in from the back and sides of the FP viewing areas and felt the show was only 'meh.' I think you really need to be able to see the water surface to fully see the show. I guess the closest analogy is it's like seeing only the top half a parade; it can be fun, but you're missing out on half of the show. So, if I was going to see WoC again, I would opt to invest the time needed to get a good viewing location. So for that, I would plan on arriving anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes before the show is slated to start (in hopes of being near the front of the FP line) and then made a beeline for a centered railing spot.

If we only get to see it once (no plans to get out to LA in the near future), would it be worth it to do a dining package or the dessert party? Or just get there early and try to get the best seat with a FP?

I would totally go with the dining package or dessert party if the budget allows. But if either of those options doesn't work out, then be prepared to invest the time to get a good viewing spot. Study the viewing area map on the first page of the WOC Superthread to know where the good viewing is in every section. Then know where to go when you are allowed in. If you are short, investing more time in getting a good spot can be critical to your enjoyment of the show.

Since this is your first trip in 15 years I cannot recommend the dessert party enough. Having seen all versions of WOC with FP and Dining packages , the dessert party tops them ALL. The thing about WOC like figment touched upon is that much of the enjoyment and such is from seeing the actual water projections. I'm only 5'2 and an AP holder from the bay area ( 6 hours away) but even so all the times i've seen it didn't even compare to when my husband insisted I book the dessert package for myself.

The thing about WOC is it's all standing room and you need to arrive a good 30-40 minutes before the return time THEN stand more for a good 45minutes to an hour. It can be exhausting after a long day.
However with the dessert party you get a very generous plate of desserts, cheese and fruit - up to TWO alcoholic beverages ( a vodka/lemonade/blue curaco mix) or champagne and unlimited non alcoholic. Then the best part THE SEATS. You get to sit and leisurely enjoy things , there are high top and low top tables and even with my balance issues the high top director chairs are VERY comfortable and sturdy. I was about 280lbs at the time.

Yes, so exhausting. I'd LOVE to see seats put in for the entire WOC arena. That would be so nice.

We have done really well he last two times we have been there. We arrived about 15 minutes before the return time, got in line (we were in the blue section), and then when everyone was rushing to crowd down near the bottom, we just went right to the first rail and got a great spot at the rail. I am hoping we have the same luck this time around

When we were there 2 weeks ago, we got blue section fps. We got in line right before they started letting people in. We first had thoughts of getting as close to the water as possible, but we wound up stopping by the rail right behind the dessert party area. All 3 of my kids were able to see perfectly(they are 9,7,4) without us holding a child the whole time. We were also able to get out pretty quickly as well.
