We are staying on property, so we need to get our passes more than 60 days out to book Fast Passes, correct?

Also, some of my group has annual passes but they'll expire one month before our trip. Is it best to wait until a certain time to renew them? Or can I just buy new annual passes?

Following this too, we are looking into buying annual passes but want to confirm if they are activated once purchased and linked in MDE or activation date is when you arrive and go to guest services before park entry?

The passes won't be activated until you go to guest relations at a park. When you purchase you'll receive a voucher to link to your MDE for fastpasses. If you are within the renewal window your anniversary date remains the same.

So, buy or renew the APs at least 60 days before your trip starts, so that you can make FPs when your window opens. Renewals can be purchased up to 60 days before the AP expires, but renewing 60 days before does not change the expiration date - it stays the same date, one year later.

Please tell me if I am understanding this wrong.

It seems like it wouldn't be a good deal to renew, because we are not going again until a month after our passes expire. So, if they expire in February, I don't want to renew them to keep the same January expiration date. Does that make sense? Can I buy a new AP to activate on our first trip back in February?

They are activated and expire one year from the date you go to guest service in Orlando. We activated ours at Disney Springs. :)

If the current AP expires on, say, Jan 12, 2018, then if you go the renewal route, the pass will expire on Jan 12, 2019. But there is about $100 discount on renewals - depending on the type of pass.

Alternately, you can purchase a new pass for your February trip. It'll cost you more, but the expiration date will move out to a year from the date you activate it.

$100+ savings or move the pass expiration out a month - your call.

Our passes are FL resident -- some weekday select, some silver. I'm assuming they'll give us a deal on renewals 60 days from expiration date? So I can wait until then, decide, then a month later I'll have to make FP for Feb.

Renewals on Florida passes aren't quite as much: about $40 for the Select, and about $65 for the Silver. Yes, renewals can be made starting 60 days before the expiration date. You could wait to renew until 61 days before your Feb trip; then the next day you could make your FP+. As long as you have some sort of valid ticket at the -60 day mark for your trip, you can make FP+.

You can renew 60 days prior to the expiration date, or up to 30 days after the expiration date. If you renew you'll get the renew discount, if not and it goes more than 30 days past expiration then you'd have to get a new AP

Also to anyone who might be confused, if you're staying on site then you need to have tickets to book FP's. If getting an AP then you would get the AP ahead of the 60 days so you can book 60 days out for your on site trip and then activate your AP when your at Disney.

Or if you're staying off site, then you'd want to have your AP's 30 days or more in advance so you can book 30 days out
