when to dress your age

In a couple more years I am going to be 30 I was wondering if there is a certain age where you should start dressing your age. I like to wear clothes that I am comfortable in. I shop at Joyce Leslie, Hot Topic and recently I started to shop at Charlotte Russe. There has been a few times where people thought I was 16 and I am 27. The clothes I see people my age wearing (preppy) is just not me. So how do u feel about people still dressing young.

I feel that! I'm only 21, but I work for a chiropractor part time while I'm in school, and we had a lady come in today and say "You know there are child labor laws, right?" or something smart alecked to that point...Wouldn't she have been mad if I had come in to HER office and said something like, "Wow, shouldn't you be retired yet?"

In regards to your actual question, dress how you want as long as it's not too over the top...like super short skirts, etc. I don't really think that looks good on the high school girls and I definitely don't think it looks good on the people I'm in school with. I've changed my hair, makeup, and clothes trying to get people to respect me for the age I am-none of it worked, so I'm sticking with looking 14.

I, too, don't think it really matters, as long as you are comfortable in what you are wearing and it is appropriate to the setting. I have lots of clothes from Torrid (Hot Topic's sister store for plus sizes) and love them. I don't wear most of them to work, but rather when I'm out and about or going out for the night. (I'm 34, btw.)

I know this sounds weird, but I really think alot of it depends on your personality and the age you look. I'm 18, and in college people make fun of me. Apparently I look like I'm 15 or something, I just have a young face.

If you're a bubbly pesron, I don't that dressing how you described is bad at all. Maybe if you were 60 ;)

I am so confused by this! LOL! I am 26 and a Mom. I am also wear a size 5-6. I can't shop in the Misses section in the department stores, a size 4 is huge on me. And I can't shop in the Junior section, the clothes are too short waisted and I am not into "trendy". I just don't know where I fit in! I usually end up in places like Maurices, Lerner, and Express.

What is a 26 year old Mom supposed to dress like?
;) :D

I usually try to dress a little older than 21. I look young -- I've been pulled over and asked if I was old enough to be driving without an adult in the car (about 6 months ago), and I can't get a drink in a bar without at least two forms of ID because they always think mine is a fake.

Especially when I'm doing something important -- job interviews, talking to professors, trying to get stuff done on campus -- I try to dress at least in decent pants and a button down shirt. It's not really my style necessarily, but it does help me give off a better impression. I've found that when I dress more "grown-up" for class that I generally get more respect from teachers too. People still think I'm 15, but I do get treated more like an adult.

I still buy my clothes in the junior section, they are generally cheaper than misses, and they fit better.:teeth:

I'm 29 and I still here that I'm 16 and that's looking trashy!!! I'm not sure what dressing my age is. I dress the way that I fell and in a way that still makes me look good. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Age is just a number.
