When to buy the mouse-ears?

For me it is a MUST-DO to buy both my young boys a set of the original mickey mouse ears since this is their first trip to WDW. I'm wondering if we should get them very first thing when we come in (just after rope-drop), so we can take that magical first photo in front of the castle WITH the ears? Or do we wait until later in the day so we don't "waste" time when we could be riding some of those oh-so-popular rides before the big crowds hits?

Kind of wondering about this, too. The one time my parents took us to WDW (eons ago ), these were not in their budget.

I don't know if my guys are too old for them (10 and 8) or not, but if they want them, when and where should we get them? Are they only at MK or can you get them at any park?

My wife goes to the Disney store at the Mall and buys the flashlight twirling things for the kids. They are usually on sale there. Not sure about the Ear’s thou. But she will also buy some Disney stuff at other stores at sale prices and hide them in the suitcases and give it to them at Disney. It can get very expensive buying the same stuff at Disney.

Gotcha. I've been to our disney store and bought shirts and sunglasses ($3 each!). I've ordered lanyards and pins from eBay (I think I got a non-scrapper seller). And I'm limiting spending money for them to passports, possibly ears, and a couple of new pins. They are actually quite good at not asking for much, probably b/c the last 18 mos that we were in Europe we traveled a lot and they got used to hearing "no". Gma is giving them Disney Dollars, and that will take care of their spending money.

OK, I'll admit it...I spoil my kids at WDW

Actually, it's a tradition that we get new ears for them everytime we go. That's the first stop we make on the very first day...I don't think they'd know what to do in a picture without their ears on!

I bought the kids their ears the night before we went to the parks. They have them at the gift shops in the resorts, DTD, even at the airport at the DIsney store. I think you can get them in the shops or carts right outside each park so before you go in, you can buy them (or if you are waiting for ropedrop) I believe I paid $11.95 for the ears, just the simple black ones with little red logo. There are obviously more to choose from and more expensive ones.

we are currently planning our first trip to WDW and I can't wait to buy some ears I kind of have a thing for them and have bought a different pair on every trip we've had to DLP, I even check them out on ebay just in case they have some special event ones but I think when I finally get to buy them in WDW I will be so excited !!!

You can get the ears in the gift store at your resort so you don't have to waste time at the park getting the ears right after rope drop. Then you can take the picture and do the coveted rides quicker too.

Also there is some places in each park you can get the kid names sewn(sp?) on the ears too so you could stop in there after riding the rides etc to get that done as you can't get them done at your resort.

Those ears are EVERYWHERE in Disney. You'll never go a few paces without seeing them!

THANK YOU! Did not realize they sold them outside the parks. We're actually staying off-site, but we have ADR at Chef Mickey's our first night in Orlando before we hit the MK, so maybe I can pick some up there.
