Always a difficult decision to make. There is normally a price saving to be had by buying in the US over buying in this country. For example, on the following link: (
Ritz Camera) it is for sale at $349. At 1.7, this would be about £205. However, don't forget that there will be sales tax to add on, which will trim the saving down albeit that the rate is better than 1.7 at the moment. However you have the hassle of going to buy it.
The link I've used which is Ritz Camera, is a big US camera retailer and there is one outside the Florida Mall. So say, the website and shops are not linked, but in my experience the prices are very similar.
while we was on hol in orlando 2004 we saw loads of camera shops
I would beware of going into one of the many shops which have nice bright neon signs advertising cameras as in my experience they are just out to rip you off.
We went into one some years ago looking for a camcorder, and looked at one model, but not being sure we went to leave, and the closer we got to the door the lower the price got! Also, a friend of ours bought 2 cameras on 2 different occasions, and was ripped off both times, buying a camera you cannot even get in the UK, for a hugely overpriced amount.
That having been said, if you do want to get in the US, make sure you know exactly what model you want (note from this link that it is a 5200 in the US: (
DP Review), and exactly what extras you get in the UK - case, memory cards etc, so you don't get fooled by a salesman in the US, making out you're getting more than you are.
Finally, I would also say to not let any salesman convince you to buy a different make and model that you've decided on until you've had chance to look it up (either in a camera mag or on the internet if you have access).
As an aside, we used to have a Fujifilm 6900, which is similar to the one you are looking at and thought it was a very good camera.
Hope this helps
