Our trip is the end of october 2016 15 days so we want to buy the Annual pass. I am working on budget now and while I understand the ap resort discount isn't a guarantee, I am really hoping we end up getting an offer so we can stay deluxe for the first time. Since the passes are for one trip, we have. Blot of time in which to buy the pass...when do you recommend I buy them to help my chances of getting a discount???

You can keep an eye out for AP resort discounts via mousesavers.com or wdwinfo.com. They usually release them 3-6 months in advance.
You dont need to have the AP when you make the reservation just when you arrive.

Doesn't matter much. Normally, when you "Buy" a AP you are getting a voucher for an AP that you turn into an AP at the parks. When you turn in the AP that is the date your AP clock starts ticking for 366 days (it's good the day you start the clock and it's good on that day next year. ie 16 July 2014 till 16 July 2015)

But the voucher gets you access to the passholder website.

If you buy a voucher now, you will have it at today's price before any increase. There will probably be at least two price increases between now and you trip. If you can afford to tie up the funds until then, it would save a little on the pass cost.

Wow didn't know you could buy now for later..not possible this year but maybe by the summer! I figured it was calendar year. I want to book resort as soon as we are able, but I assume they will honor the AP discount if and when it is offered at a later date? If we don't get the discount probably won't do deluxe. :)

If they handle this like many other things, you'd cancel the first reservation and re-book as the discount reservation. (Safer to do that in REVERSE order, of course.)

This is a much better fit as a Resorts Forum question, HERE.

You don't need to have the AP when you book but you need to show it at check-in or come back and show them an active one within a day.
