I live on the CT/NY line- I have several airport choices, although
White Plains NY and Newburgh NY are the closest....

Our trip is Oct 11th...

But I can't get over how high ticket prices are...I seem to remember that 3 months was a good time to buy and Im still a week or 2 away from that date..

Will they drop???
Is there a magic window of when to buy a ticket?

I don't know what kind of airfare you're looking for, nor your return date, but I just went on JetBlue and found $114, each way from HPN Oct 11, returning Oct 18.
I think that's decent airfare, no it's not the $59 of a couple of years ago, but those airfares are long gone I think.

I just checked again- when I look at jetblue (11-18) for Stewart Airport
I get $291 per person

I wont fly out of laguardia, parking is too expensive. Stewart is $40 for the week, which is nice.

We flew down in March, bought our tickets in February and for Jetblue it was about $700 for the 3 of us. (2 adults, 1 child and 1 lap infant)

For our trips in September I normally book mid to late July and have always gotten good rates. I think right now it has to deal with the 4th holiday. Cause I am surprised at prices out of the 3 airports I can chose from. I believe with airfare it is a hit and miss and if you find something jump on it.

Delta out of Bradley is $259 for your dates. You mentioned going out of Stewart, have you priced White Plains - they are usually less. You can avoid the high parking rates/troubles there by parking at the nearby LaQuinta in for about $10/day and they will shuttle you over.

Also, what about AirTran out of White Plains. We have never used them but we know people that fly out of White Plains on them all the time and they usually have very low fares.

That's not a real busy time of year to fly so I'd bet you'll eventually see a good fair. If I can get less than $200 per person I usually book it. Only once in a while will I ever get less than that. I'm in the same area as you so I usually fly out of HPN. They always seem to have the best fares. Be careful with Airtran as they are notorious for drastically changing flight departures as well as adding stops to non-stop flights.

Check JetBlue website on Wednesday evenings. It seems to be the lowest fare then. After midnight it jumps up again.
Good Luck
