I'm wondering how early you need to book villas? This will be my first booking, and I need to rent points.

I'm looking for a 2 bedroom, and right now am considering (Resorts Removed) . I would be booking for late (specific month removed).

Does anyone have any experience with this? I am worried they I am not get points rented in time to get a room, especially if I have to wait for the 7 month timeline.

Thanks for any input!

EDIT: Just a reminder that we do not allow specifics, such as dates or resorts to be included in threads about rentals, except on the Rent/Trade board. Thanks - Chuck S)

As with anything Disney, and especially DVC, it is always best to book as early as possible. To help ensure your choice of resorts and date, booking during the 11 month window with a DVC Owner that owns at those resorts is best.

Here is a helpful web page on the subject, courtesy of David's Rentals, one of our board sponsors:

How Soon Should I Reserve?

Earlier is better, but that has to be balanced against the risk - rentals are almost always non-refundable and many times the dates are not changeable.

If someone contacts you "out of the blue" via PM or email and offers to rent to you, be extra careful. We have had some problem transactions when people did business with someone who bypassed the Rent/Trade Board requirements.

You are usually able to get a 2BR at the resorts at 7 months except that there is a real risk at least some of the days you want may be filled before 7 months out: (a) anytime of year for BWV standard or boardwalk view, AKV value or club level, and BLT standard view; (b) time between end of Sep to marathon weekend in Jan for BLT, BCV and BWV; and (c) for AKV standard and savanna view, OKW, VWL, and the SSR treehouses, time in mid-Oct around Columbus Day, few days around Thanksgiving, first and second week of Dec, and Christmas week, particularly if you want days around NYE.

I've read that busy times at DVC resorts aren't necessarily the same as busy times at parks. I'm planning late August which I know is a little less busy than summer. Is this time also a little less busy at resorts? This is what I'm gathering based on previous reply.

Last half of Aug is a lower DVC demand time. At 7 months out, you will be able to get a 2BR anywhere except likely BWV standard and boardwalk view, BLT standard view, and AKV value or club level. That means BWV pool/garden view, BLT theme park or lake view, BCV, VWL, and VGF should be open, and AKV stanadard and savanna view, OKW and SSR will likely still be open well beyond the 7 month window. Key is not to wait beyond the 7 month window because once that window opens, the risk is that near park resorts could disappear quickly.
