When to book?

We are thinking of going to Universal in August and would like to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, but for a variety of reasons we can't book yet. How far in advance do you think we need to book the hotel? Any advantage/disadvantage to waiting?

(It is so unlike me not to plan a year in advance - it's killing me!)

We always go in August and I find that the best rates for that time period start to come out between the end of February - March. Last year I booked a super savers for August and paid $216 per night at Hard Rock Club Level.
Thought that was great considering I paid a lot more the yr before for Royal Pacific standard room.
