When to book onsite hotel

Hi just asking for advice anybody's experience booking greatfully received

I am looking to book for 1 or 2 nights to stay at a universal hotel to get FOTL passes we are going in May next year and have preferred annual passes and wondered when the annual pass discounted rates are available and also whether these are cheaper than the AAA rates (we are AA members in the UK so I think we can get these rates is this right?)

We're going to be in Orlando for 3 weeks staying in a villa but will just stay at one of universal hotels for probably 1-2 nights and will be able to book when it works out cheapest so we won't be tied down on dates I just wondered if anybody knows roughly how far in avance they release the AP rates
