When to Book for Spring Break

Just realized the DVC exists this year! I've been reading a lot of the threads and trying to figure out how all of it works. So I am considering renting points from someone on the Dis Board when we go next year (last week of March, first week of April). We would like to stay at least part of the time at the Beach or Yacht Club to take advantage of the Stormalong Bay Pool.

I normally book my plane tickets in January, so would want to book the room after I book the plane tickets. Would that be early enough to buy DVC points? Or do I need to start purchase earlier?? I want to have everything set in concrete before I book rooms. I don't want the person I'm renting points from to have a big hassle or have to change dates because I can't get my dates decided upon!

Also, from everything I read (and looking at the charts) it looks like it requires a lot of points for weekend stays. I was thinking of staying at a Value resort on the weekends, and renting points for Beach/Yacht Club for weekdays. Is that pretty common, or is it really a pain to change resorts? Would it be reasonable for us to check out of our Value Resort early one morning and expect that our luggage would be transferred to our new resort by late afternoon?

Any pointers or tips you could give me on renting DVC points and planning next year would be appreciated.

January is too late. Now may be too late (particularly for the Beach Club as it is quite small), but there may be a chance because you are not quite at the 7 month window. Your best bet is to book eleven months out. You should start checking now and if nothing is open, look for an owner who has a reservation in place that they cannot use.

For your 2nd question it's quite usual to book for cash on weekends and points during the week. My family thinks it would be too much hassle, but that's just us - lots of people use that system.

Jan will be way too late for spring break. If you want that time frame, you need to be looking now. People are booking Jun 07 now.
