when to book for jan 2010?

We just came back from our 1st trip to disney and had a great time!!! We are looking to book for jan 2010. I tried throught the disney website but was unable to do so. We are looking to book early so we will get the hotel we want but we still want to wait to see what the deals will be. Anybody have any ideas or has anyone booked for jan2010 already?

Call 407-W-Disney. You can book up to 500 days in advance. Now, since 2010 rates have not been released yet, then your nightly rate could change once those rates are released. But you can definitely book now!

You can book a room only 499 days from the last day of your stay. If you want to book a package than, you will have to call once the new rates become available and re-do the reservation into a new reservation. What they tell you is that they would have to cancel your room only and create a new package reservation. At that time you will get a new reservation #. We have done this plenty of times and never lost the room that we originally booked when they canceled it. Happy planning!!

If my memory serves me correctly from here on the DIS the new rates come out some time in August. I think it's during the first 2 weeks. But I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for the quick response..I love these boards..Now to book a resort ..Does anyone know if booking during the 1/2 marathon is more expensive? My hubby wants to go to wdw during this time to run in it.

When you book the new reservation, I assume you need a new deposit. What happens to the deposit you paid on the room only reservation? We'll be booking two rooms at a deluxe, so we'll be out quite a bit of money for the room only reservation if we don't get a refund. I assume you get it refunded, but how long does it take to get back?

When you convert a room only over to a package, Disney will refund you your room-only deposits. They say it can take up to 30 days...we received ours in less than a week...but I wouldn't 'count' on the refund being available as quick (just in case). To book your package you will have to put down a $200 or pay for the package in full if your travel date is within 45 days. HTH
