When to Book Christmas Flights

We are heading to FL from Dec. 17th to Dec. 31st. Right now I can book Allegiant (Elmira to Sanford) for $975 for four of us round-trip (total includes luggage, seat selections, etc.)

JetBlue is presently $1540 with the legacy carriers in the same ballpark.

I am skeptical to book Allegiant although they are the perfect flights for us--direct, perfect times, best price, great seats. I am afraid that they may pull out of Elmira or go under or something before December. Is this rational? I don't know anything about the airline, and we have never flown them.

Should I wait to see if the other carriers prices come down, or should I just book Allegiant?:confused3

FYI--Landing at Sanford doesn't make any difference to us, we won't use DME even if we land at MCO.

I don't know if Southwest is an option - but it doesn't open for Christmas until 6/2. But beware - I booked Southwest for 12/26 on the day it opened last year and the tickets were around 350 / 375 price range. Houston to MCO.

I would go with Allegiant Air if everything else is good. It's VERY difficult to get good airfare for Christmas and less than $250 per person for NY is pretty darn good.
