when to book air for July

We will be taking the DCL in July and haven't booked air yet - waiting for fares to go down. Right now, out of NYC, the fares are a little over $200pp for a direct flight, and that includes the budget airlines Jetblue and Song. My questions are:

1. When do the fares usually go down for July (leaving on the 23rd and returning on the 31st)?

2. What would be considered a good fare for this time frame from NYC to MCO?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

My advice would be to check the air fares every day. There are often surprise web specials that are considerably lower than the usual fare.
I have just booked our July 5-12 flights out of NYC to MCO on Song with a special web fare of $174 RT with great front seats and the times I want.
People say that the air fares are predictable, that they go down every certain number of days, but I've found that it's very unpredictable.
Just check the web site every day, and remember Song and jetBlue use one-way fares. I paid $87 each way, and I was very happy, because they are now $127 each way. But they will go down again, they always do.
I booked my outgoing flight out of LGA because it was a low fare and I wanted top grab it, and then a week later, the return to JFK also dropped, so I grabbed that, too. I worked out better financially to book the departure and return separately.

I agree with Aisling....check everyday. I booked our 06/26 & 07/09 flights in January when I was able to get Song out of LGA $180.00 pp RT at the exact times we wanted. Although we prefer going out of Newark, I couldn't get anything cheaper than $240.00 pp RT & at crummy times; so, LGA it is!
If you're a member of Delta's Skymiles group, you can save your itinerary & check prices quickly.
Good luck!

call me crazy if you must but i booked our flights for july in late 2003 for $137 and they have done nothing but gone up since then. I had researched Delta's fares for quite some time and bought when i felt they would go no lower. i doubt that they will fall below $137 from here out.

I paid $135.00 on February 2003 for our August trip.
This year year it's well over $200.00. I hoping it goes down also!

The one time I booked flights way in advance, I'm talking 9 months, I think, the flight changed 3 times. Our original flights were cancelled, then we found our selected seats wouldn't be honored because a large group booked, and then the times changed. This was on Delta. So I'm too scared to book so far ahead, when anything can happen. Now I just wait until it gets close, but not too close, and wait for those great fares. And so far it's worked!
