When to begin "The Gathering"

My trip is just over 3 weeks away. I was wondering when other people start to gather together the things to take on their trips. I started today with a couple of things here and there, putting them in one spot in the basement. Most of it of course can't be "gathered" until the week I leave, but bits and pieces can make their way to the packing spot. So, when does anyone else start the process of "The Gathering?"

I start a week or two in advance. I have a spot where I start putting the things I may need on vacation. When it comes time to pack the suitcase I may put some things back.

I'm leaving for Christmas vacation on 12/18 and have started what is known as, "the pile". Sunscreen, travel size stuff that I've picked up at Target, you know, stuff.

Although my pile consists my DIS Unplugged lanyard and pin, and my new baggallini Bon Voyage bag...no clothes yet!

How timely is this thread??!!
Just today, for the first time I picked something up and said to myself.."self, I think I will need this for my trip." Thus began the gathering.

I actually don't start putting things together until closer to the departure date, or else I might forget things. Sounds crazy but true.

I do; however, start getting my trip documentation together 3 weeks in advance. I print all of my confirmation numbers, itineraries, etc that I take with me in case their are any questions about reservations. Having this information makes me feel a little less stressed.

We have been Gathering for months. We have a 3rd wheel this time, my MIL. We are trying to spoil her rotten, so we have been making her signs for the front of her scooter. We have gathered together gloves, blankets, a new cane, lots of park touring paraphenalia, and more. We have matching t-shirts all set for the 3 of us. We have a Disney backpack filled with goodies for each of Corey's relatives, so that they can join us at MVMCP and be spoiled too. I have already set aside my favorite shorts, in hopes that some days will be warm enough to wear them.

We keep a Disney vacation travel box. It always has our favorite lanyards, rain ponchos, travel sized stuff, pennies for the presses, and more in it. I am so excited that our trip is coming up in just 4 short weeks!

EARLY - Honey, you are LATE. I leave in 19 days - and I've been gathering since my last trip which was Dec 2008. I collect "stuff" all year, I make "travel" bags for my cousin's kids - so far, I have Donald beannies, light up toys, games, disney mini-books, pennies and quarters for the pressed penny machines.

Also, I was down at the world in October, so when the clothes came out of the laundry they were folded and put in a basket, ready for the suitcase - the suitcase would be packed, if I wasn't using it every week - stupid work.

I am late getting started on my daily itineraries, I do up a little one page "what we're doing today" for the family - I made them the first trip - and now everyone wants them for all our trips. No good deed goes unpunished.

I can probably re-use last years and just change the dates and the restaurant reservation info.

We start a few weeks before we leave. I usually start by seeing something that we need for the trip & starting to make a pile in an extra laundry basket (that way the items cant run away!).

I'm doing my best to make sure that I don't OVERPACK, as I always do...Since i'll only be going for two short nights, I am determined to go carry on only this trip! It'll get me to the parks quicker if I don't have to wait for my luggage!

3 weeks is not early don't worrie.

I bought my FE gifts for the podcastcruise just e few weeks ago.
I have bought magnettape for the podcast cruise and also for the EB TA cruise in 2010.
I bought new Pirate gear for the podcastcruise last July....
and so on......

Don't worrie just do whatever whenever you want to do it.

I used to start my pile any time after the last vacation. Now with all of the regular junk(lanyard, Disney shoes, makeup, sunscreen, etc)in the Owner's Locker, I just pack my clothes and swimsuit and go! I have to confess- I have started gathering a pile of clothes on top of my suitcase this week. I don't really need to, but it makes me feel like it's a little closer every time I throw something on top.

it certainly is timely.. I was thinking to myself last night "when should I start getting my stuff together?"...

we're leaving December 13th so I have a little time still, but it doesn't hurt to start mentally figuring out what you need to bring! I'll probably actually start getting my stuff together the weekend before our trip.

When I unpacked last year I left a few vacation bits (adaptors, travel pillows etc) in the suitcases.

Last weekend I went through the wardrobe for my stuff and checked the ironing pile. I will get DH to think about what he wants to take next weekend (he has already stopped wearing bits he may like to bring bless him).

Then I'll pack and re-pack!
