When to bank?

We have already planned and reserved our 2008 vacations and have 194 points left over. We have a June UY. When do I need to bank these points? And will I run into a problem making a reservation in, say, April 09 with them if I have banked them? I am confused about how this whole system works...

If you have a June use year, you must have made reservations with your '08 points for trips from June 1, 2008- May 31, 2009. Any trips you plan to take after May 31, 2009 must be made with your 2009 points. So if you are thinking of planning a trip for April of '09, don't bank all your points until after that trip is booked. ANy points banked into '09 will not be available for '08 use year trips.

Just another FYI....If you are planning on traveling in April of '09, you should probably make those reservations sooner rather than later. THat is spring break and EAster time, so it could be tight availability if you wait too long.

It just occured to me that you are confused with which points get used when. Just think of your points as always there for a given year. What you do with them and when is what changes. For any trip from June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009, your points will come out of your June'08 use year. If you are not making any more trips within that time period, you should bank the remaining points by January 31, 2009. Any points you bank will then be able to be used for trips occuring between June, 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. They will be added to your existing 2009 points on June 1, 2009.

Thank you! This answers my question. I have until Jan 31, 2009 to bank them, and once they are banked, they are no longer available until the next UY begins on June 1st 2009, correct?

They are available for trips that take place between June 1, '09 and May 31, 2010. You can use them to make reservations during that time period as early as 11 months ahead of travel.
