Is it sometimes because people don't load fast enough and the doors smack them? I may or may not know someone that recently had that happen to them and then the ride stopped.

Yup. SPace Mountain, Matterhorn, Racers, Big Thunder, Incrediacoaster are all timing oriented. Take a couple extra seconds, the whole ride goes down.

Also if too many cars are on the track it will close down. I was on it once when that happened and they have to push the cars to get you to go again

So when you get to the loading area for the ride, be ready to LOAD! That is NOT the time to start arguing about seating arrangements or debating who should have all the bags or climbing over rows of seats to be funny, etc. By delaying the loading process, you risk shutting down the ride for all the other guests.
For guests who really do need a few extra minutes to load for whatever reason, ask the CMs in the line well before you get to the loading area. There is help for you and CMs are ready to guide you to the loading area where you will be able to take the extra time you will need.

You nailed it, kids were arguing and half made it on. Strangely, CM was instructing us to leave the 8 year old behind! Needless to say, we were freaking out.

My daughters rode Matterhorn single rider last year. I was watching and waiting. I watched this family argue over who was going to sit where and was thinking "Oh no..." Sure enough, cascade and my younger daughter was stuck overlooking Pixie Hollow for about 40 mins... But we could wave to her!! We had a churro in her honor, no she didn't think it was funny....

The Matterhorn is the worst. Get in, sit down! Worry about your seatbelt when you are stopped at the entrance. It is easier now that you don't have two people in each seat. So many people would get in and mess with their seatbelt before their seat mate would get in. Sorry, gotta leave without you!
