My wife and I have a trip planned for May 2022. We have our resort booked. When should we buy our tickets?

This is a dynamic question. There's been times where park passes have been booked full 2 months in advance down to now where only a week out only some parks are full. However, by May, I could see a lot more international travel picking back up, so it could be a busy spring and park passes may fill up further out. If you're wanting to wait as long as possible, I'd keep an eye on reservations and when April starts to fill up, expect May to follow soon. This would be the last opportunity to ensure you get your first choices.

The other hand would be the ticket prices. The longer you wait, the more likely ticket prices are to go up. If you're trying to get tickets through a third party site, you'll most likely have some time to get tickets at the old pricing structure, so if you hear prices went up, then you would probably want to get yours immediately while those are available.

If you're going through Disney for tickets, any reason you don't create a resort plus ticket package? You get the tickets tied to your account, can reserve your parks, and not have to pay in full until 30 days out

with capacity going back to 100% the park reservation should not be a problem. the big thing is to buy in time for your fastpass reservations...I have to think (hope) they are back by May 2022!

We'll probably get the tickets through a third party to save a little money. Our resort was booked with a friend's DVC points so I didn't think I would be able to do a package with tickets. If I can wait until 2-3 months out that's fine with me. Keeping an eye out on April is a good tip I'll do that.

I didn't think about this. I'll keep an eye out on fastpasses coming back and possibly dining reservations going back to 180 days and get the tickets in time to book those.

Ah that makes sense. Dining should only be tied to your room, not tickets, so you shouldn’t need the tickets to book dining. Sparty had a good point about returning to 100% capacity and probably not hitting the cap too often in the future.

So really, you’re left with price increases and potential fast passes to worry about as far as getting tickets. Most third party sites have inventory of current priced tickets, but once WDW increases those, their supply will be limited, so if you hear of a price increase, definitely get your tickets quick at the cheaper rate.
