When putting an offer in for a new contract, how long do you wait for a response?

When putting in an offer on a contract, how long do you wait for a response? Once you are past the " We have received your offer" automated response, I mean? With the way the market is moving right now, one has to be able to put an offer in ASAP. How long do you deem reasonable before moving forward with another contract? I had an immediate response with our last offer so this is new territory for me. Thanks in advance.

I have never considered email an appropriate way to handle offers. Always called.

I'd recommend calling to follow up on your offer.

I've always called first. Some brokers asked me to submit the offer online during the call, but in those situations, they responded and sent the offer to the seller within minutes since they were expecting it.

When at all possible I call to make an offer. If I cannot call I email but as soon as possible I make a call to the broker.

Some brokers want you to submit the offer through their online system so they have a "written offer" with some sort of "legal" signature. I always call in addition to any other method they require. If I don't get a response by the next day, I call again and tell them that I'll withdraw my offer after 48 hours so I can move on. That seems to motivate them a little more.

I submitted an offer last Wednesday morning. Sent an email Thursday and Friday mornings following up didn't hear anything other then the canned response. Ended up putting in another offer on Friday on a different property with another agency and it got accepted.

Depends on the broker and the seller. While calling to make an offer might be faster, I prefer a written record.

For the one we ended up getting, it was a case of "that's not the UY we want, but if we can get it cheap enough, we'll take it." So I just emailed the broker with the offer. To my surprise I got a response back so fast, that I thought it was one of the automated replies. But it was the broker letting me know he'd received the offer and was sending to the seller. We went back and forth over the next couple of hours with counter offers until we settled on the price.
Now had it matched perfectly with what we wanted, meaning our preferred UY, I would've called immediately after sending the email.

I emailed Fidelity with my offer at 1:43pm and they sent the offer to the owner at 5:00pm. Owner counter offered 3 days later and I accepted. All through email. I have passed ROFR and I am waiting on closing documents.

With all that said, if I didn't get an initial response within 12 hours, I would call.

I got a call 10 minutes after submitting my offer via the website, the agent had already talked to the owner and gotten the counter offer which I accepted.

I had been looking for a suitable BLT contract for 2 months when this contract popped up on the dvc resale app. I submitted an offer about 15 minutes after it popped up, and the whole thing was over in less than an hour.

If I hadn't heard anything in 2 hours I would have assumed I missed out on the contract, but good BLT contracts have been selling in hours lately.

Both of our contracts, we sent the offers by email. That way I have a written copy of what was sent and what happened. I have usually heard back from the broker the same day or next day at the latest.

This is exactly what happened. I did and then followed up later that afternoon with the broker. I am specifically wanting to know how long to give the buyer before moving on.

I would send a follow up email stating my offer expires in 1-2 days or whatever timeframe you feel is appropriate. If it's an amazing deal, I might be more lenient about the timeframe, if it's an average offer, 1-2 days is more than fair IMHO.
