I read that the studios will be available starting in Spring of this year. When they do release they date- how does booking work? Is it open to all DVC members? or just those that have become Poly owners this month (assuming sales will start)

For example- I have a trip booked in May and own at AKV- if Poly studios open for spring booking will I be able to go online and try to switch to Poly online?

What has happened in the past when other resorts opened?

Do new owners get first dibs even if its within the 7 month standard time frame?

I imagine demand will be ridiculous and chances slim if at all to switch a spring stay to the Poly.

Edited to add: just how many points are we talking for a weeknight stay in the studio? Weekend? rough guess?

yes, new owners get first dibs with a shortened booking advantage initially.

other owners will not be able to book initially until the shortened advantage period is over.

(that is what happened when i booked the VGF for the november after it opened.)

point costs and demand are impossible to predict at this point.

I have doubts that any rooms will be available this spring with it being January and their not having started saless yet. Someone that pays better attention can probably comment on time between sales starting and opening day. I think VGF was several months - seems like we bought in June maybe and the resort didn't open until end of Oct.

I found a post with the details of when VGF went on sale:

Here's when BLT went on sale:

Guys...

Prices already posted, but will post anyway - $112/point with a $5 discount pp with a minimum of 100 pts purchased.

Resort to open on Sept 1, 2009 and BLT members will be able to book beginning Mar 1, 2009 all other owners on Mar 15, 2009. Now my rep says that if you are not a member, you will not get in the resort when it opens. Don't know if that was a sales pitch or in fact a reality since the price is opening significantly lower than some had projected (up to $180/pt).

There is a club lounge on the top of the resort which will hold about 70 people and for now, it will only be available to those staying at BLT.

No developer points.

Member dues are $3.67/pt.

Sales don't officially begin until Sunday.

I'm the first to be sold points from my rep, who said I beat him to selling himself points. I caught him on the phone this morning as he walked back into his office after their morning meeting about sales for BLT.

Interesting that it went on sale a year in advance of opening. The only thing in common with VGF is home resort owners had a short booking advantage.

Maybe the difference in time lines was due to the differences in size - took longer for BLT to sell enough for opening compared to the size of VGF??

I doubt that the size of the resort had anything to do with the longer pre-opening selling window at BLT compared to the shorter window at VGF. Keep in mind that the Villas at Grand Californian -- which is much smaller than VGF -- had a pre-opening sales window not much shorter than BLT. If I was going to take a guess at what brought about BLT's longer sales window, I would guess it was because DVD was rolling out BLT, VGC, AKV-Kidani, and SSR-Treehouse Villas all at the same time in late 2008, early 2009. With so many points coming onto the market, DVD needed a longer sales window. By comparison, when PVB's sales commence, it will be the primary focus of DVD's marketing at Walt Disney World.

VGF sold over 17.5% of its points in the first three months of sales and had almost a fourth of its points sold when its doors opened in October 2013. It wouldn't surprise me if DVD doesn't expect to match or exceed those numbers with PVB.
