When it's so cold that you breath in and your lungs BURN, you know that it can't be good to be outside...MAN, will it ever get warm again? I've had people say "well, you chose to live there..." but really, is it any better anywhere else. We lived on the east cost (south) for many years and put up with horrible hurricanes, my brother lost his home in a mudslide in Nevada, I have a friend who lives in CA that is deathly afraid of earthquakes (rightfully so, she's been through 2 bad ones in her life!!!) and in other areas, there are really bad tornados at times durring the year...so really? We just have to think "what would we rather put up with?"

I just thought I'd offer my 2 cents...we can't live where it gets too hot in the summer, because of my daughters heat/humid problems (believe me we've tried)...Is there that "perfect" location? Someplace with out snow, with out 20 BELOW BEFORE the windchill knocks it down to 50 or 60 below? Is there someplace that doesn't have earthquakes, tornados in the summer, hurricanes? TELL ME, I'd like to know where, because I'd love to move there!

I'll let you know tomorrow when I wait for the bus for work in 8 degree weather. Still I LOVE WINTER! :thumbsup2 I'll take an Arctic Blast any day over a heatwave.

I hate it when it is so cold that the inside of my nostrils freeze. Yes, it is THAT cold here.

I didn't chose to live here. If I got to choose where I lived, this wouldn't even crack my Top 10. My DH found work here. Seemed better than unemployment at the time. Sometimes I wonder...:sad2:

I don't see a minus sign in front of the eight, so you'll excuse me if I think you are lucky to be having such warm temps...;)

It's a small price to pay for living in such a wonderful city.

We'll never move.

Yes, it's minus 20 windchill right now, but those days are few. I can deal with it.

Albuquerque NM.

We lived there for three years. Because of the elevation it never gets ridiculously hot in the summer. Usually it got into the 90's but without humidity it really was not so bad. What little snow we got melted a day later. Great T-storms, but no tornados nearby. And no earthquakes.

Another great place we've lived in was Southern Oregon -- Medford/Grants Pass/Ashland area. Summers were hot but not crazy hot and mostly dry. The snow we got never stuck around long. No tornadoes. Being on the Pacific Rim there is probably a chance of earthquakes, but I was unaware of any major active faults that you have to worry about like you do if you live in L.A., San Francisco, or even Seattle.

Western Washington.. It is dreary in the winter.. But not to cold. Doesnt get to hot in the summer.. Mid 70s or so. No tornadoes, occasional earthquakes.. but fairly rarely. NOT like SoCal. I LOVE it here. But... I hate extreme weather. You should see us at Disneyland when it gets to be over 80. My whole family starts to melt. :rotfl2:

Why can't I figure out where you live? I feel like I'm reading it over and over and still dont see it. (I do that sometimes. :headache: )

Anyway. Boise, Idaho.

It was cold today... but it was 32'. It does get colder but not too bad. We had some days inthe 20' around the holidays... but usually only a week or so.

Today I just complaining about the cold air. I had taken a methol cough drop and then had to walk a ways to get to a field trip for my kids. That cold hitting my menthol lungs hurt!

Yea, anyway... Boise.

I however (who lives 5 miles from Boise) want to move to Oregon. ;)

I'm in Maine. Minnesota's probably a bit colder today. I hit an icy spot on my way home and slid off the road into a snowbank. As I was trying to dig my car out with my trusty shovel (glad I keep it in the trunk with the emergency kit!), and turning into a popsicle, I was wondering why I live here! My shoes got filled with snow (I should have worn boots), my pant legs were soaked, and I still feel cold several hours later. Thank goodness for good samaritans in winter clothes!

St. Louis normally isn't horrible, though the summers can be a bit much with the humidity, and hey, at least you'll never be bored, weather-wise! It can swing (and has, on numerous occasions) 40 degrees in the space of a few days. Last winter, the temperature dropped 35 degrees, IINM, in the space of several hours. I was out walking in shorts and a t-shirt in the morning and it was snowing on my way to class that night. :scared1:

The ONLY plus to the insane cold coming up is that my office has granted us additional casual days so we can bundle up and not freeze to death on the way in.

I didn't choose this. My parents did. Our families are here and we simply can't leave them. So, I guess we choose to stay, but I sure as hell didn't select Cleveland as the place I decided to live.

I'd much, MUCH rather take my chances with the occasional hurricane, fire or mudslide...and hell, I'd rather have the house wiped out one time...than deal with the cold, snow and ice every flippin year of my life.

For so many, many reasons...I hope and dream of moving somewhere warm.

Listen to the planes flying overhead. they have a wierd echo that is not there when the air is warm.

I agree, I've lived in Wisconsin my whole life and even though I always complain about the snow/cold I don't think I could live anywhere else! I'd rather deal with the freezing cold than hurricanes, tornadoes, and horrible heat.

They've already called school for tomorrow because the wind chill is supposed to be -40. :scared1:

We are supposed to get close to single digits Friday morning with wind chills around 0. The coldest temperatures we've had in Alabama in six years. Wish you snowbirds would keep it to yourselves!;)

We might get a little hot here in the summer, but these winter nights are the reason I love living in FL, and no hurricanes for the last few years. Although it is a tad chilly tonight here, I think I'll take our 30 degrees over negatives anyday!

-35 in Wisconsin, 69 schools and two colleges have closed already for tommrow. ANd yet I still have to go out.

See I was born in northern WI in 1970. We had -40 then. Winter lasted all winter. It's making a comeback!
