When it rains........

I have one of those folding umbrellas that slips into a pocket, usually not needed; but not a problem to have in a pocket. And I always have a spare pair of shoes in my room for the next day, in case I wade in the water.

Mary Poppins used one, so I do too.

Enjoy.

During my Dec 2002 trip, it rained off and on while I was there, only one day had what I call a all day rain.

Since I grew up in Seattle, I learned along time ago to just do whatever you want in the rain.

Now if it is thunderstorms, then I would still go, but would do more inside attractions.

Anyways during that trip, the day it was all day rain I was AK. For some reason no one wanted to ride Kali River... :confused3 I mean..you couldn't get any wetter! :rotfl2: . Those of us daring to ride it, got to go around a few times with out getting off, since there wasn't alot of riders.

That same trip I was doing my first MVMCP, when it not only poured, but thunder and lightning. They finally had to cancel because it was just flooding every place. The good thing for those who were staying till least the next one, got a rain check. So I got to go again a few nights later, and this time it stayed dried. The next day after that heavy rain, I had a shoe blow out! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I still have the shoe as a memento. :lmao:

We always carry poncos with us and wear waterproof sandles. We also carry a towels to wipe us after the rain, you feel a lot better. One plus is that the crowds are less I guess people are afraid of getting wet. Enjoy!

I love to walk in the rain and get wet!! It cools you off :)

Count us in as part of the group that puts on ponchos and carries on.

Last year while we were at MGM, the rain start POURING unexpectedly. I mean it wasn't that it started to rain...it started just coming down in buckets. Everyone started fleeing...it was so funny to see people take off over some water. There was no point in reaching for our ponchos...we were soaked already. So we just enjoyed a rainy stroll through MGM just laughing and enjoying ourselves. Everyone had dove for cover so it made it feel like we had the entire park to ourselves because all the streets and sidewalks were empty (stores and such were packed, though). It was awesome! We headed back to the room so we could get out of wet clothes (particularly the socks) and also because we wanted to freshen up for an ADR we had later on.

We bring ponchos and it's business as usual if it isn't storming. Usually, we make rain breaks the time that we shop or have a snack and try to enjoy the rain (with our Scottish heritage, it's easy!) If the crowd does start to thin out, we head for a ride that we haven't been able to enjoy because of crowds.

Our 1st trip a few years ago I was prepared for EVERYTHING (think packmule!). It was the last Cindy's Surprise . . . show of the day in front of the Castle and partway through I noticed the clouds start rolling in. We were sitting near the front of the stage and I started to very quietly pull out the rain coats, ponchos and umbrellas we had in my backpack. I quietly placed them in front of my family--they didn't even notice. When the first few drops hit they looked down and quickly put them on. The rain started and of course they immediately canceled the rest of the show.

My family looked at me (the planner) and said, "well, what now? Back to the hotel?" I looked at the THOUSANDS of people now streaming through the hub toward the entrance and said "Heck no, We're going that way!" and pointed to Tommorowland (it wasn't even on the Commando Plan until later in the week :rotfl2: ). We made our way through the crowd to the nearly empty Tomorrowland and walked on to Buzz Lightyear, got off and walked on again. Then we walked on to Space Mountain. By that time the rain had stopped and we rode Astro Orbiter. And when the park closed about an hour later the lines at the bus stops were very managable because the majority had left an hour earlier!

NEVER leave in the rain! It is the best time to ride! Also we determined that umbrellas are useless-- hard to use if there is wind, and dangerous to those around you. The Ponchos just made us really hot and sticky and were a pain to wear. We decided that lightweight rain coats and a hat with a brim (like a baseball cap) were the best defense. The Ponchos didn't to to waste--they were great for covering the stroller and backpack.

The only thing I didn't pack that trip that I completely regretted was an extra pair of socks. We got caught in an early morning downpour later in the week at MGM and the streets were "flooded" so our feet got very wet. Since it was hot the shoes dried okay, but my socks were soaked the rest of the day and I got blisters (never found a shop to buy a new pair for some reason). Now I leave the umbrellas at home, but throw an extra pair of socks for all in a Ziplock just in case.

We carry our ponchos with us all the time just in case! It depends on what time of day it is. If its close to lunch time and we havent ate yet, we'll run to a CS and eat. If it isnt lunch time then we go into a store. But if its just a light drizzle and looks like its gonna end in like 5 mins, which about 95% of the time it does, we just carry on with our day like its sunny outside and not a cloud in the sky. Only difference is we are wearing ponchos.

don some gortex and keep going...we walk onto rides when it rains...or well when it is value season and it rains...but that is the only time we go anyway...

We carry ponchos as well... or at least this time we are. Really I can only think of three times concerning unpredicted rain. Two of those times were when we were in line (for Dumbo and BTMRR) and decided to wait it out, and the other we head back to our hotel because it 'seemed' like it was going to be a big storm. Of course by the time we got to our room it had stopped  I'm sure we've been caught in the rain a lot more then that but those three I remember well.

Put on our ponchos that we bought at the dollar store and carry on .may dash for cover if it is too hot for ponchos or appears to be a realy quick shower .( Or that is what I would do if it ever rain'd at WDW :rotfl: )

I absolutly hate ponchos, so I'll walk around in the rain which I actually love to do. We usually will just go see Muppetvision, Tough to be A Bug, Haunted Mansion, or other indoor ride/attractions though when we're with people who aren't huge fans of the rain.

As full-time Floridians, we don't go anywhere without an umbrella, stroller rain-gear and flip flops in tow!
What we'll do in a WDW rainstorm depends on the severity - I'm not looking to be the latest "lightning strike victim" on my vaca. If it's particularly bad, we'll head for indoor rides. Otherwise, we enjoy the diminished lines and keep touring.

I always carry my old school yellow Mickey ponchos in my bag just in case it starts to rain. A quick pit stop to put on said ponchos and we are off. I actually hate the ponchos since they get very hot and the hood never stays on, but they do come in handy. I have left the parks twice due to rain, but those were real doozies. The storms in Fl. usually pass by in an hour or so.

just put on the ponchos and continue on.. a little rain never hurt anyone. if it starts lightning, then head for an indoor attraction or shop, but otherwise, might as well continue on and enjoy the magic and attractions while everyone else is running for the exit.. :dance3:

Skip! Dance and frolic in the rain!
You can still soak up the magic!!!!
