they're expecting RAIN this weekend

Whats the best things to do at Disney (or the orlando area) when it rains ???

I was thinking about EPCOT center, is that the best bet for a rainy weekend ??

What indoor activities are the best bet ?????

You should wear your water shoes and poncho's etc... expect to get a little wet and GO! Rain helps thin out the crowd. Take advantage since alot of attractions are indoors at Epcot, MGM and even MK.

The "rain" they're expecting is probably just a scattered afternoon thunderstorm. That's normal for WDW from now until October or November. The showers usually last between 15 minutes and a couple of hours.

Chances of a washout day are pretty slim.

My advice is to stay in the parks and bring cheap disposable ponchos. Also, a water park is a good bet after a storm clears up.

Enjoy!

We have been to Disney while it rained all day and never had a problem finding things to do. We go to DTD and do DQ or maybe a movie. We have driven to the mall and done some shopping. HTHs :flower:

Just do it! My tip is to bring a second pair of comfy walking shoes so you at least have dry shoes to wear if your first get really wet!

The best thing to do at Disney when it rains is get wet and play in it.

Come on, when was the last time you played in the rain?

Isn't it about time? :)

While we were in WDW last October, it rained like I've never seen before. We went to the Animal Kingdom - equipped with ponchos and our "extra just in case it rains" shoes - we had a fabulous time. It was warm but wet. The weather did clear up later in the day, so it was back to the hotel for a quick change and then off to Epcot for the remainder of our day. We told our kids to pretend you are in a tropical rain forrest - use your imaginations!! Didn't keep them any dryer, but they did laugh! The rain sometimes keeps the crowd levels down in the parks so you might even use it to your advantage. Have a great time!

i live in FL so i know the weather.....believe me.....when they say rain...they MEAN RAIN.... but it does only last for about 15 minutes and the thing abou Florida is that it could be raining cats and dogs in animal kingdom....and have perfect weather at magic kingdom

but if you DO get caught in the rain for a while...dont leave it will eventually calm down....chances are that there will probably still be fireworks that night....during the rain is a GREAT time for getting autographs at indoor places :cool1:

One of my best pieces of advices to offer is to buy the Disney poncho's. They are a good quality and you'll definitely be thanking yourself if you do get caught in the rain. The Disney ponchos are only seven bucks and is much better than wearing a trash sack, which is what the disposable ones are like. The disposable ones are good for light rain or going on a wet attraction ride, but not for braving the Florida rain. TRUST ME, BUY THE PONCHO!!! And buy them as soon as you get there, that way you'll have them and you won't have to stand in a line to buy one if it does start raining. That was one of the smartest things we did was to buy a ponchos on our first day when we found out rain was in our forecast for later in the week.

The good thing about Disney is that when it even starts raining just a little, all the stores and shops whip out the ponchos and sell them, so they are easy to find.

Just got back from 8 days at WDW, so feel free to ask any questions about weather, crowds, etc!

wear sandals if you can, they don't stay wet! if you insist on shoes, bring spares and spare socks in a ziplock baggie.there's nothing worse than wet socks! bring an extra baggie for your wallet, cell phone, camera... that stuff. I'm not a poncho person, myself, I hate to carry a bag, (I go weekly, to play, it's not just a job). I hate the bag check line, so I wear deep pockets.

The day we went to MK there was a big rainstorm that lasted for almost an HOUR!! I heard one of the CMs say this was the longest she'd seen it rain...but it totally worked to our advantage! :cool1: We got ponchos (even tho I could've gotten them at home at the Dollar Store) and the lines were GONE because everyone left!!!! It was awesome. Then in Toontown, a TON of characters came out for a little 'semi-private' dance party. We did the limbo with Eeyore, the hokey pokey with Minnie Mouse--the HIGHLIGHT of our trip. :umbrella: So do not let rain forecasts get you down...the rain MADE our trip!!!!!

I tell people that when it rains in what I call the Florida Flood and Flicker, once they see them clouds, go and have dinner (usually it's between 1-3 in the afternoon). By the time they get out, it will be cooler and less crowded.

Everyone's advice is correct, but if your "Rain Phobic" you can always go to Disney Quest at DTD.

There are the normal Florida afternoon rains, then there are fronts where the rain sticks around. We are just back and we had 4 days of sun, followed by 5 days of rain, followed by one day of sun (it rained heavily late that day but it was our departure day). On the first three days the rain stopped by afternoon. On the second two days the rain really didn't stop. So, I give these tips with experience.

1. Do you get cold easily? If so, wear more clothes (longer pants, t-shirt instead of tank, etc.) Even if it is raining, the rides, stores and restaurants will have the AC cranked up as if it's 95 outside, and if your skin is wet, you will feel really cold.

2. Don't try to brave AK in anything harder than a drizzle. Here is what you can do inside: Tough to be a Bug, Festival of the Lion King, Dinosaur. Everything else is outside. Several of the restaurants only have outdoor seating.

3. Epcot World Showcase isn't much better. Lots of the fun of WS is wandering around, having a snack from a cart, watch the live entetainment. That's not so fun in the rain. Some of the live entertainment is cancelled and some is moved to a location that is hard to find.

4. I think that much of Epcot's Future Wold would be fine in the rain. There is a lot to do in each paviolion (except that Test Track would be down.)

5. Magic Kingdom is fine in the rain. There are so many rides that it's no problem to be indoors. Last week it was rainy in the morning and we were the second family on Dumbo. We rode the carosel, tea cups, etc...all the stuff we normally breeze by, because the place was so empty.

6. MGM is okay in the rain. The distances between rides are longer but there is quite a bit inside.

7. DTD is okay...you could spend a lot of time in World of Disney and the Lego store.

Lastly, make sure everyone has at least two pair of shoes. We got caught in a huge downpour and everyone's tennis shoes got very very soaked.

Most of the time when it rains, the lines are pretty scarce. Wear ponchos and have fun!! There are plenty of attractions indoors, so you could just hop from attraction to attraction without being in the rain too much.

When you really think about it...Disney is mostly indoors. Space Mountain and most of the Fantasyland rides are indoors...Pirates of the Caribbeans...Star Tours...Shows...etc.,.

The "rain" they're expecting is probably just a scattered afternoon thunderstorm. That's normal for WDW from now until October or November. The showers usually last between 15 minutes and a couple of hours.

Normally I would say this is true, however last Friday and Saturday it rained for almost two days straight, clearing up only around 4:00 on Saturday afternoon. We had two days of rain and then two days of blistering heat. Sunday was only 84, but with the humidity, the radio weather lady said the heat index was 102 deg.
