We have never stayed in the poly but just feel like we should at least once. We have stayed at POR, POFQ, AKL and GF. Our upcoming trip in Sept will be at CSR. I would never go to the poly without a discount code because I refuse to spend over $400 a night for a hotel room. I thought I had read that they are going to refurb all the rooms at the poly. Anyone know when? Thanks

I am like you, very hard to spend 400.00 a night, especially since it is one of the oldest hotels there. You are paying for LOCATION...LOCATION...LOCATION! although I love it but really think the rooms need a newer look. With the remake of the Contemporary that would be my choice!!.

They update around every 8 years or so and they are getting close to that. There has been some talk about test rooms being setup off site and talk among the staff about something happening next year. That has run the gambit from room rehabs to a Poly rebuild to nothing happening. Nothing known for certain at this point but some sort of refurb is not too far off.

Agree. There's been rumors floating around about a major refurb occurring in 2013. Some rumors have even gone so far to say that a good portion of the resort will be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up. But as of now, they are just rumors. Nothing has been confirmed regarding when and how extensive the next refurb will be.

I actually like the decor of the Poly rooms. I hope they don't change them. We have stayed there 6 times, and I never get tired of the resort.

We love the Poly! I know the CL rooms were refurbed 2010. It is about the location, the beauty, and OMG its so relaxing!!!

Another Poly lover here.. I like the rooms- i dont need bright lights and colors in my face 24/7.

I also feel the Poly is perfect just as it is. I love the fact that it is one of the originals . It is beautiful, certainly not old and run down looking.

I too like the poly the way it is, just hate the crazy prices! Bring back the good discounts!

This is interesting. It was one of my top choices for June 2013 simply because of space.

I stayed there last, about two years after the last rehab. I thought the rooms were nice, but I think the lobby looks outdated. As far as the exterior of the resort, I think it is a good representation of Polynesisan architecture. I would rather see the buildings remain, but the insides gutted.

I've never stayed at the Poly but I have visited. It reminds me of a 1970's cocktail lounge and I didn't like that look back in the 70's. The Royal Pacific Resort at Universal has the polynesian theme without the dark and dreary look to it. They have a lot of glass and natural light so it's not dark & depressing.

I always get excited for resort refurbs and the Poly could certainly be due for one, however there's another part of me that wants it to stay this way forever because the first trip to WDW that I really remember was at the Poly. Then, we stayed at the Poly for part of our honeymoon so just walking onto the resort brings back great memories :goodvibes ...I'd be kind of bummed to stay in a different looking room. Maybe I'll have to convince DH that we just HAVE to go back to the Poly before they refurb it for an anniversary trip! ::yes::

Count our family in as Poly lovers. Love the theme, love the restaurants, love the location. Last year it suddenly occurred to me just how much we were spending per night and we went as far as considering CR for our next trip to save a bit of money. But when it came time to book we just couldn't switch.

Rumor is that they are having foundation problems (sinking), which is why they may need to be rebuilt.

LOVE the Poly and the rooms are just fine to me. We usually get the Fiji building and I've never felt the room was outdated. If a major refurb does happen, don't expect that $400/night rate to stay the same! I agree it is so pricy there and location is a huge factor, maybe wait for a pin code if you can; we got a nice break with my AP discount. It's by far our favorite resort and the most relaxing for us.

Well, that's a new one to add to the list. I doubt that one after 40 years and the construction of longhouses. The most common things being mentioned are making room for a DVC, issues at the GCH, and modernization in general.

I had read that the pool was having sinking/cracking issues, but hadn't read that there were foundation issues with any of the buildings. I do know there's significant issues with water leaking into the GCH when it rains. They've tried to fix that without luck so at least one rumor is they will tear down and rebuild the GCH.

I've been hearing similar things. The leak is one issue mentioned at GCH and there are others but I'm a little reluctant to mention most since there is so little confirmation. The GCH is also known to be very limited in the ability to reconfigure it if they want to change shops, restaurants etc. And there is some mention that having guest rooms in it would be a preference. You have to rebuild or at least partially rebuild to do that.
