When is the Canon 40D suppose to come out?

i have an original digital rebel and i really need to upgrade. i was planning on getting a 40d after canon announced it last march. :-(

canon let me down. so now i am thinking of getting a 30d. i thought i had read there would be a price drop this month but no evidence so far. it would be a lot easier to justify if the price was $999. :-)

i would get a 400d/xti but i am pretty disappointed with it. i don't like the loss of the status lcd and the noiser 10MP sensor. i'd rather have a clean 8MP sensor. i do like the improved focus points as this is a big complaint with my rebel. i've also read the sensor clean feature barely works so that is a don't care.

Well the 400d being "noisier" is in the eye of the beholder, aside from being considered a very good 10mp sensor(noise wise) down sizing an image is also a great noise reducer. So if you down sample a 10mp image to 8mp, 20% of any noise would theoreticaly vanish bringing it down to about the same noise performance as the 30d.

But really if you already have a decent camera(REBEL), I would wait to see what is offered in the 40d.

Not to start an argument, but I've heard the claim of "this is a disincentive" used before and I don't understand why.

Why do you assume that a video mode would degrade still mode?

I 99.9% of the time use a camera as a still camera, and I demand excellent image quality. Yet sometimes - eg traffic at a busy intersection in Taiwan - the reality is best conveyed by a movie. So why be so down on a camera having a video mode?

I certainly don't want to argue. My point is that I want a camera, if I wanted a video camera that is what I would buy.

The reason I spent so much money purchasing a dSLR is the quality you get. They are bigger and costlier because they put more into the camera. If they start adding video, then they are by the very nature taking away from the camera.

That's just my opinion, but it is supported by some of the reading I have done.
