when is the best time to start packing???

I dont want to start too early but people are looking at me in amazement that ive not even got cases down out of loft yet ?
Its a daft question but when do you guys think is a good time to pack???

We are so excited in this house its unreal and will packing send everyone over the edge?

I dont pack till a day or 2 before, But I make a list then tick it as stuff goes in, If I pack too soon it all comes back out again!

If we are going on a weekday I always pack the Sunday before. If going on the weekend I aim for the Wednesday evening.

It just gives me a few days in case I want to add anything etc.

Just dont leave it until the night before.................

Usually get a few things together a couple of days before, but don't start properly packing until the evening before. My personal carry on i do partly that night and the morning. I charge camera, ipod's, psp etc over night and put them away the morning we go.

Due to work etc we always fly out on the weekend, so I pack the weekend before.

Having said that I generally start putting things into the suitcases about 3 weeks before we go. It's DH job to "do the toiletries" and make up a list of stuff to buy. Then on the weekend before we go I pack everything properly and sort out the hand luggage. Once each bag is done it's locked up and then not touched, that way I can relax and enjoy the last week at work looking forward to our holiday and just load the bags into the car knowing it's all done.

Best time for DW is when I am out of the house Why does anyone want more than 2 pair of shoes? This August I want 2 cases about 16kg each, thats plenty for 3 of us for 25 nights, I think I will have to watch over her.
If we fly Thursday she packs Sunday, if we go Saturday she pack Wednesday. They are usually 2 days we fly.
I charge and pack all electrical stuff night before we fly.

Everyone else thanks for the advice I think I might start putting a few bits and bobs together as its half term and hopefully ill be able to then get the few last bits and bobs when the kids go bk to school - even thought they only go bk for 3 days

I cant stand leaving things to last minute. I always work out what we are taking weeks and weeks ahead and then start ironing and packing probably a month beforehand

That way I never leave anything behind

I have started working out what I am taking for this years holiday already and working what extra bits I need to buy

I'll be an early starter! As soon as I get my new suitcases, I'll be putting stuff in that we won't need until the holiday (snorkels, waterproof cameras, some summer clothes (going in October so it'll be cold again by then lol)).

Then I'll pack 'properly' about two weeks before. I know what I'm like, I'll remember something I've forgotten every night and put it in! lol

Anything we'll need during that two weeks will be in our hand luggage (toiletries, phones, camera's, documents etc).

I don't work well to a deadline, I need to ease into it! lol

Mine's the opposite, he wants to take far too much and I have to restrict him! Last year I took the day off before we were due to fly-finished packing-sorted house etc, took the kids for their dentist appointment. When I got back DH had returned from work (he only took pm off) and had broken one of the cases trying to stuff more in! Then got stessed as we had to re-pack 30 mins before leaving house to travel down for twilight check-in- we were still 1st there!!

I start packing weeks in advance, toiletries, sun creams etc. Then pack clothes day before we go-This works for us (unless DH interferes!!! )

I usually wash, iron and pack for my youngest son and myself the day before we go... Everyone else does their own packing...

I always do my case the night before - Pants, socks, T-shirts, sweatshirt for cooler evenings, trousers = done.

Toiletries and hand luggage I do in the morning.

We tend to start getting ourselves organised around a week before - washing and ironing what we want to take and leaving it in the spare room. Getting all the electrical cables and packs sorted at the same sort of time once the cameras are charged.

But, it actually goes into the case the day we go to the Airport Hotel (assuming we are staying at Gatwick the night before we fly). It's usually harder to organise my camera bag than the cases!

I have to leave it til a few days before as I only end up unpacking and then repacking if I do it too early. I start getting stuff together a week or so before though so I don't wear something I want to take.

We get the cases down about a week before and then over the week I chuck stuff in that I see around that I know we need. I actually properly pack usually 1 or 2 days before, if I did it any earlier I know I would keep repacking the stuff lol.

We started putting things into our cases about a week before, items we knew we wouldn't be using during that week. Anything that is needed usually only goes in the evening before.

ok i think i may have some kind of disorder! I normally start to pack ... 2 months in advance! I have three young children though, i work and do all the packaging myself, well thats my excuse and i am sticking to it! Ill go and bury myself a hole now

I think we are flying the same day as you, we got our suitcases out this weekend for me to start looking at what i have got how many cases we need to take etc, but i think we will do the serious packing Wed next week and then put the final things in on Fri.
