When is Spring break in the USA ?- I can see from other posts that they all seem to start and different times according to location.

Can somebody give me an idea of the earliest time it starts and how long does it last.

Our Easter/Spring holidays in the UK don't start until 31st March - 18th April.

We are visting WDW on 22nd March - April 5th from the UK and we were advised this was a good time to go before the Easter crowds start.
now I'm starting to panic.

We've never been at this time before.

Awaiting replies with crossed fingers! :confused3

I don't know about the rest of the country but my kids are out of school March 25th - April 2nd! :teeth:

Thank you.

So I'm guessing it varies according to state etc.
here we all holiday at the same time.

Thank you for your quick response.

Spring Break

Here is a website that lists the different colleges/university's spring break weeks.

Where I grew up we didn't get a spring break until college. I didn't even know that kids other places got them.

I think it not only varies by state, but also by school district.

Worse than that, it varies by individual school district. I live on an island of about 60,000 people, comprised of four towns, cut into three municipal school districts (one tiny town pays to use the next town's schools). My county has 25 municipal school districts in total. My county is one of 21 counties in the state of New Jersey, and by population it's one of the SMALLER counties in the state. I think there are like 600 school districts in New Jersey alone. Oh, and by the way, there are 49 OTHER states. So you can see how mind-boggling it would be to figure out the exact time of "spring break" in the USA.

Oh, and then there are the colleges and universities. They do whatever the heck they want. My college usually had one week off each spring IN ADDITION TO one week off for Easter.

I think the best you can do is avoid the week before Easter and maybe the week after. Even if school districts have spring break earlier this year, many will still have off for Good Friday (and some may even have the day before Good Friday off for the first day of Passover); here in the USA, all we need is one day off to try to turn it into a whole week off!

Ours is also the last week in March(3/27 - 4/2). I believe most of the schools in the Chicago area have this spring break.

For those of you who have a Spring Break in late March/early April, is this the customary time for your Spring Break? The reason I'm asking is that here in the Northeast (CT), we have a week off in February and another week off in April. Do you only have one week, and is it usually the same time period every year? I'm planning a trip to Orlando in March 2007, and I'm trying to figure out when would be the best time - my kids aren't in school yet so we can go any time. We were there last week (2/26-3/5) and it seemed busy to me!

The schools that I am aware of in our area all get one week for Spring Break. This would be the public schools and many catholic schools, though some catholic schools still do the week after Easter. My sons school (Catholic) changed from Easter week to the last week in March a few years ago to make it easier on teachers and families with kids in multiple schools. This week works well for us because it lets us travel with friends and family because all the kids have the same Spring Break. Also, even though this will be a busy time, WDW is even busier the week before and the week after Easter.

I think that the custom of a "winter break" in February in addition to a Spring Break sometime in March/April is more of a northeast thing. I grew up in the south and my sisters' children are now attending school there, we never had a winter break (we never had a spring break either, actually; just a couple of days around Easter.) I now live in the lower midwest and schools here do not have "winter break." The standard in most of the country seems to be two weeks around Xmas, and perhaps another week somewhere in March or April, with the weeks bracketing Easter being the most popular.

Our grade school is RC, so their break is always right around Easter; this yr. they have 4 days, from Holy Thursday until the Tuesday after Easter.

I live in the Central Illinois and we only get one week off during the second semester. It varies from year to year. This is our "Spring Break" and this year it is the March 25 - April 2. For Easter the kids only get "Good Friday" (April 14) off.

Spring Break isn't just for the colleges nor is it necessarily based on when the various colleges take off. All the schools (primary, junior hig, high school, etcll) in our area take a week off sometime between March and April. Some take the week before or after Easter. Others such as ours take a week between grading periods. our school is on a 9 week grading period. We have four 9 week grading periods per school year.

Most of the schools in my area schedule their spring break between the middle of March to the end of April.

Here in Kemah in CCISD our break is 13-17 March - we leave for WDW on Sunday :cool1:

In the city of Chicago the kids get off April 10-16, they go back Monday after Easter.

I have 5 in college...and one in preschool. Thus the reason we are going to back to DW for the first time in years!

All of my adult children (and I use the word adult loosely..especially during spring break) have begun. I have 2 that are out now and the other three start at the end of the week.

Have a wonderful time!

I live in the southern burbs and ours is 4/13-4/23

I know the school district one town over is the week before ours.

Another school district not too far from me is the last week in March.

Ours is March 25-April 2. And, I've already heard of four families heading to Disney. But schools in the area start taking breaks in mid-March through the Easter holiday.
