When is menopause?

I am 49 - I have been going through the thing of having a very heavy period, then not having one for a couple of months (but having bad cramps), then having one again for about 1 year now. I don't think I've had a hot flash. I did go through the night sweats thing and have trouble sleeping sometimes. I am very moody and let things bother me more than I use too. PLUS I have leg cramps in the middle of the night - like I did when I was pregnant. That is really annoying.

I think having two teenage boys isn't helping much either. I try to explain to them and my husband what is going on with me but they don't understand.

OMG, I had the same question! I am also on Seasonale, too! Hi, friend!

I hope someone can answer our question about being on Seasonale and menopause. I'm hoping to glide into the end on Aunt Flo's visits with the use of Seasonale if that is medically OK to do. I'm afraid if I go off Seasonale that I'll need surgery, and I'd rather avoid that if possible.

My dad used to say Menopause and Teens should not occupy the same house. :rotfl: Ain't it the truth!

My concern is that I don't want to go off of Seasonale to figure out the menopause stuff and then get pregnant! My periods are/were so awful, I've been on some form of pill for over 20 years now just to keep regular.

Ain't that the truth!? I think I'm about to hit menopause and my dd is 10. Yikes! :)

Sometimes, I want to rip throats out over someone's incompetence and sheer stupidity. :furious: I notice I'm extremely more irritable at times, and my sleep cycle is way off. Sometimes, I can't remember simple stuff that I usually do. Plus, my period seems to come every 3 weeks now, and last longer. :(

I went through perimenopause between the ages of 47 and 50, the heavy periods coming every 3 weeks, lasting longer, crying for no reason in the middle of the day, being a grouch for no reason

Forgive me, I might be having one of my perimenopause memory fogs here , did I post this TWICE? somehow a second time under another poster's name? :confused3 ;) Surely, some other poor woman isn't going through the same thing.

Argh! Just trying to quote my own post, I hit the "Edit" button three times instead of hitting the "Quote" button. :sad2: Stuff like that didn't happen when a couple years ago. :sad1:

and the "after" can last 10 years.

AFTER???!!!??? There's an AFTER, too? :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint:

The only people living in my house is a 16yo boy and a 53 year old woman.... we're fine! :lmao:

Just like people have different periods and labors, menopause is different for everyone. I took no hormones or anything, I'm just glad NOT to have that craving for chocolate (my biggest problem) once a month.

My Mom when through menopause at 36, so did my oldest sister and my aunt. My middle sister doesn't even remember, her's was so non eventful. It's not anything to fear or to freak out about, it's a part of life.

My only problem is I still have to WORK with women having their monthlies... :scared:... do NOT miss them!!

I started with perimenopause when I was 40 (I'm now 47). I didn't recognize it at first; my son was 10 years old, and the symptoms started shortly after my daughter was born. Moodiness and sleep disturbances were the initial symptoms...then a few months later the night sweats started. There were times I had to change my sheets three times in one night. :scared1: I started doing a lot of reading about it, and was able to lessen my symptoms by taking Black Cohash and drinking two glasses of soy milk every day. I now have night sweats once or twice a week instead of once or more a night. The hot flashes are horrible at times. I sleep with the window open and a fan on in the colder months, and have a window air conditioner in my bedroom (in addition to central air) for during the warmer months. :thumbsup2

I don't think many doctors prescribe Premarin anymore; the risk of developing breast cancer outweighs the benefits, IMHO.

I don't think the earlier you get your period the earlier that you go through menopause. I got my period when I was 8 yes, you read that right 8 and now I'm 41 and still have my period!!!

There's a great book out now called "Is it Hot in Here? Or Is It Me?" by Barbara Kantrowitz and Pat Wingert Kelly. My DSIL read this book and she said it was the best she has ever seen. So for those with questions, check this book out.

Is it really a great book, or was she in one of those irritable moods like I get, :furious: and she ended up throwing the book at someone, then said, "Hey, that book really helped!" :thumbsup2 ;)

Jotting book down... Thanks!... better order SOFT cover. ;)

My Mom went though it in her early 40s but we thought that was in part due to her Breast Cancer in her mid 30s and the treatments. I went though it 2 years ago (very fast) with no warnings really besides my cycles messed up after my 3rd DD but we thought that was from the tubes-tied surgery. I will be 40 in 2 years.

I am serious thinking of trying replacement drugs but with my BC risk I am not ready for that risk right now. I am trying more natural ways to deal with the side affects. (No hot flashes, more moodiness and almost always very cold)

I go a couple of months without "aunt Flo" stopping by then BLAMO bleh.

According to my doctor your not in menopause until you go a whole year without a cycle.

My hormones tested within normal levels, but there are days where I dont feel normal :rotfl:

No hot flashes yet, and I welcome them, since I am always cold
