When is it going to get better?

I don't honestly think it will. I think the DIS is broken. :guilty:

Well that's really the million dollar question.... President Obama's stated intention is to forge a national consensus. The "it" the OP referred to will "get better" if President Obama is successful in doing so, i.e., if a substantial number of people, from many perspectives (because the adherents to no specific perspective, alone, are so numerous so as to constitute the population for a consensus), join this consensus President Obama is building, in recognition of the fact that the nation will be best-served by such a consensus rather than the partisan stalemates that are the alternative to such a consensus.

Just throw in a couple of "uhs" and "Y'knows" and that sentence sounds just like President Obama.

Joke, just a joke. :)

From my perspective, I think consensus is over-rated and simply masks the absence of leadership.

To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects. Thatcher, Margaret

IMO, things will get better when things get better.

My Father-in-law has an "interesting" perspective on how to make people nicer. He says men should wear hats/coat/ties again (not baseball caps) & women should dress more formally also.........

I think he has a point......I have never seen a man wearing a hat/coat/tie "moon" anybody or a woman wearing a dress "Hock-a-loogie"...... hehehe

In any event, I try to be polite, even when sarcastic/argumentive.

I am a racist b/c I don't support Obama, I'm a racist because I didn't like Aretha Franklin's hat or singing, I'm a racist because I don't think I personally need to apologize to any black person I see for slavery.

I had no idea I was racist until the past few months. That's what I'm getting tired.

Me either! It's amazing how the definition changed overnight! :lmao:

Did someone call you a racist because of your poor judgement on singing (;) ) and good taste in hats?

If they did, that is sad beyond belief.:sad1:

That hat!!!!!!!!!It was distracting. It was like someone told her to take a big bow after her performance and she decided to wear it instead.

Actually, I liked the hat....on Aretha. There are very few people that could have carried that off!

Ok.....so maybe hat wearing won't make us play nice. I will inform my Father in Law to keep working on a solution.

:)

What I meant by "get better" is the nastiness easing up a bit. There are a lot of spiteful, hateful people around here lately.

well, there's also the Super Bowl to get through......

:scratchin

Well the Steelers (or the Cardinals) are going to kick some behinds in that game. :thumbsup2 :lmao:

I imagine the hard conservatives will be just as kind over the next four or eight years as the hard liberals have been over the previous eight.

Anyone want to talk about country music?

Oh, I see how it it. Because of the "WV" in my name, you assume I like country music? ;)

Actually, much to my DBF's disappointment, I'm a huge country music fan. I love Rascal Flatts! Traveling with me, DD and DBF is a huge radio battle. He usually wins.

It's not going to end, I don't think. Everyone has to have a "side." The "winning" or the "losing," you still have to have a side. You(not anyone in particular) can't just be an American and want the best for the country. You can't be the more adult person and try to make a difference and make a better America. No, it's about the mud slinging and name calling and whining that someone lost or someone won.

You're right, it's probably not going to end. It's worse than a dog chasing it's own tail.

I too agree that this place has become less classy than it used to be and I've been around long enough to notice - even the debating in the past was done on a more intellectual level and with a lot less snarkiness. There are several of the same DIS members that seem to instigate and thrive on the bashing. This was once a place where it's members had a commonality of love of WDW and all its various elements and that connected us in a good way.

I think all of the recent political events have amplified all of our personal beliefs to the point of becoming divisive and undignified in our responses (myself included on occasion). It's also very easy to be mean and tactless when we can hide behind anonymous identities. I would hope that if I ran into any of you all at WDW you would neven consider talking to me the way others have talked to one another here.

That said - I am still hopeful that we can get beyond extremism and realize that it actually does very little to further our common causes. This forum is actually proof that no one on the extreme right or left has been able to actually bring their counterpart to 'their side'. So why bother bashing one another???
