My DH and I were thinking about going for my b-day in September, but now I'm not so sure. Is it all of August and September? Or, is October in there, too?
Yep, it's already hurricane season. You can't really plan around them, just hope for the best. And always remember than Disney will transfer your reservations and deposits to another time if you had to change due to a hurricane. They are very flexible in those situations.
Plus, I've heard that one of the (many) reasons Walt picked the Orlando area was that it escapes the direct hit of hurricanes -- last year being a "freaky" year as Jakesmom1 said.
OK! Thanks, guys. I guess we will just hope for the best. We have spent about 75 days in Orlando in the past 5 years and only had about 2 rainy days. I guess we just don't want to push our luck!
Started June 1st. We are about to get hit here in Pensacola with the first storm of the season, Arlene! She could hit CAT 1 by landfall or a very strong TS with 65mph winds already. We are still recovering from IVan

I have heard that last year wasn't a "freak year", but the fifty years before were just very mild. Apparently a lot of hurricanes is gonna be the norm.
You know you live in a hurricane prone area when you buy a generator that is wired to the entire house and kicks in automatically when the power goes out.

Friends of ours that moved down there last year just got there generator and it's all set. Good luck everyone, we will be down there with you in July. Going to visit friends, then back to WDW in Sept. Just love that hurricane season. Was there last year for Frances.

Thanks! Ivan was terrible ! WE are still recovering. We lost 33 trees in our yard. After not having power for 2 weeks, I went to Orlando to see my boyfriend because school got cancelled for three weeks. When I got down there, Jean hit. I swear I am a hurricane magnet!
My good friend left Pittsburgh today for their first trip to the World - I couldn't believe the weather!! We are going in July, and when we first booked the trip DH commented that it might be "kinda neat" to experience a hurricane especially if it thins out the crowds! He is now eating his words and we are hoping this isn't an indication of the season ahead.

Believe me, there is nothing neat about weeks without water and electricity. It is a nightmare. You can't find gas ANYWHERE, peopl eget so rude and hostile, not to mention the weather is always in the 90s and humid when one of these things hits. Trust me, your DH will not be missing anything!
I really feel the need to respond to this again, First of all the Tropical storm Arlene is not even a hurricane as of yet, second of all, it's course is not to hit central Florida, should hit landfall according to NOA in Alabama. Part of the Panhandle will experience heavy rain and some winds. We are on the East Coast of Florida, about 45 min east of WDW and our forecast is just for rain, with possibel 20 mph wind gusts.
I moved down to Florida last year right after Charlie, and was here for all that followed including Francis. Not fun, dealing with no electricity for days, but again, I have family that has lived here for over 40 years, and they all swear last year was a freaky year for Central Florida, and not at all the Norm. I know other parts of the state have not been that lucky. But WDW is in Central Florida,so , Please dont worry and enjoy your vacation. A little rain will really cool things off , so enjoy
