We are newbies here, just join the club last week, our home resort is SSR.
OUr use year start the first date of Dec in 2010 and I am planning to bank the point and use it for our CA trip in 2012 June. We would like to stay in the villas of the Grand California Resorts while visiting DL.

I understand the HOme Resort Priority Period but my question is when is the period of each club resort properties? In our case, if I called in july this year (11 month in advance), will I still be put on waitlist? What is the best way to guarantee my reservation then?

Also, I am aware that I need to make initiatives in banking the unused point for next year within the first 8 months of your used year. WIth my used month starts in Dec, does that mean I have to bank my point no later than Jul 31 this year? Just want to get it clear.

Thank you every one for your time.

What you need to know about Home Resort Priority:
  • All reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • You have exclusive access to request reservations using your Home Resort Vacation Points at your Home Resort 11 to eight months in advance of the check-in date. If, at a later date, you wish to use Vacation Points from another Disney Vacation Club Resort, you cannot "switch out" the Vacation Points.
  • You may request reservations at all other Disney Vacation Club Resorts as far as seven months before your check-in date.
  • In order to take advantage of the Home Resort Priority, all Vacation Points being used to make the reservation must be associated with your Home Resort.
  • Other booking guidelines apply when making reservations for The Disney Collection, World Passport Collection, Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection.

Welcome!! :cool1:

As pp said reservations at the 11 month window are on a first come first serve basis. However it is best to call your home resort at exactly 11 months at 9 am (EST) to make sure you get what you want. If you do that you chances of snagging what you want are excellent. All of the resorts have their "desired" categories and times of the year to visit for which home resort priority is key. At SSR it would be the Treehouses so calling at the start of your home resort period when MS opens is your best chance to secure what you want.

As well it is always best to book at your home resort at 11 months even if you want to switch at 7 months. This way if what you want at 7 months is not available and you have to WL you will at least have a room for your trip.

It is definately possible to WL at your home resort even if you are calling inside your 11 month window. I made a reservation at my 11 month window and then decided to switch it out about 6 weeks later. I was looking for a 1 bedroom standard at BLT and I had to WL. It came through in a couple of days and then I switched out at seven months, but WL definately happen at your home resort if the category you are booking is popular and the longer past your 11 month window you are.

Since you are thinking about DL next year know that the VGC is a very small resort so therefore home resort priority is very imporatant there. For the rest of us it is definately a resort you need to call at exactly 7 months as soon as MS opens to switch out. Most people are successful when they do that. However at more popular times it is quite possible you will have to WL.

As far as banking goes pp gave the deadlines, just make sure to set a reminder for yourself, either on your phone or on your computer through your calendar. Someway to make sure you don't forget, it does happen!

Be sure to read all the post here and ask any questions you may have. There is a wealth of Disney/DVC knowledge here and it is a great place to learn everything.

First of all, your June 2012 trip will occur in your 2011 use year, so no need to bank the 2011 points. Secondly, since you are trying to book GCV and you own SSR, you will not be able to book GCV until the 7 month booking window. That means that 7 months from the day you want to check in, you call MS and book your trip. You will use 2011 SSR points for that stay because those points occur in your 2011 use year.

To add to the above, they will also be able to use any banked 2010 UY points, and if needed, borrow from their 2012 UY points.

The home resort booking period is based on when you want to travel so that is what determines it.

Since you own at SSR, you can call 11 months prior to any check in date you want and book SSR for up to 7 nights from that date.

If you want to stay elsewhere, then you have to wait until 7 months from check in date of the stay.

With a trip to GCV, as mentioned, you can't call to book unitl 7 months and since you own at WDW, there is really no reason to call in July to book your home resort, SSR, at 11 months.

Many who want to book at resorts other than their home resort, book at 11 months so they have so they have something if what they want at 7 months is not available.

And, everything is based on availability with a points based time share so there is no date and time you are guaranteed to get exactly what you want.

Thank you for the info and sorry for not being clear.

our home resort is SSR but we are not going to WDW till 2013. Since we were given the 2010 point when we joined and the point expires in Nov 30, 2012. Since we are going to CA in 2012 June and we thought maybe we can use the 2010 point and stay at VGC for a few days.

Please let me know if I am not thinking it right, since VGC is not our home resort, I wouldn't be able to make reservation even if I call this July, right?

Thanks.

Since GCV is not your home resort, you can only call to make that reservation 7 months ahead. That means, if you are looking to book for June of 2012, you can call in November to make that reservation. Just make sure you call the same "Date" in November that you plan to check to GCV in June.

Correct. You need to bank your 2010 points by July 31st, 2011 in order to use them for a June 2012 stay. Then in November you can call and try and book VGC. You are not allowed to set up a waitlist or even see availability for a non-home resort prior to the 7 month mark. If you are unable to book a VGC room right at 7 months do try waitlisting. The size room you are looking for will probably affect your chances of success since VGC is a small resort. 1BR's seem to be the easiest to get within 7 months while studios and 2BR's are not impossible but are more difficult.
