We are waiting for a resale to become available but am concerned about all this talk about fires. We went last May and definitely had some smoke in the air which was irritating. I had no idea there was a problem with fires this early in the year. Is there a time of the year in which you are pretty sure you will avoid the fires/smoke? I am just wondering since the next time I will be going to WDW we will be traveling with an infant and definitely would like to avoid the fire situation. Also, if I am going to be vacationing to WDW for the next 40 years, I would like to know there is a time of the year in which I can generally avoid a fire situation. Thanks

the rain season is in the fall, winter and spring - but Florida like Calif did not get enough - until the ground gets enough water - wild fires can happen anytime.

We just returned from Florida and a few days it was really bad with the smoke. We actually had no idea about "fire-season" (we do now). I have a 3 1/2 DD and we ended up having to go to the FirstAid station b/c the smoke was really bad. She had sensitive skin and had had heat rash and the smoke made it worse. Terrible day..but oh my! 86 degrees! ;-)

Spiceycat...you've got it just the opposite. The rainy season is June thru September. From about middle of Oct on it is really dry.

Tried to post earlier but the boards were crazy.

First, I wouldn't worry too much about this. I've been to WDW around 20 times and have never encountered any smoke problem at WDW. This is an extremely unusual situation right now with a very large fire burning (but a great distance away). This winter was particularly dry and cold and they've worried since December about the possibility of fires. El Nino and La Nina created strange weather patterns the last two years that led to the fires then.

As others said, the trade off for a time with a relative guarantee of no smoke would be to go when there is a great chance that it would be raining. Late Spring/Summer you risk rain and tornadoes, late Summer/early Fall you risk rain and hurricanes. Just like other parts of the country face blizzards and ice storms...it's just part of the landscape and shouldn't be a major concern.

We were at WDW last year from the last week of May until early June and had a couple of bad days with smoke. We have been to Disney a few times during this time of the year and never before ran into this problem. In fact, two years ago we were there and had planned a few days at the beach on the east coast, but canceled because they were having such bad fires. It seems like the fires were the worst Florida had seen for awhile that year, and then last year they moved to Central Florida, instead. I certainly hope for Florida that they can get some much needed rain.

I have been there is June and it has not rained at all - been there in September and it rained the whole week. I am going on my experience - sorry if I am wrong.Florida has been very dry for the last couple of years.

I've been to OKW in January evey year since
1992 and this is the first time I have seen a fire
this big. We were sitting in Fantasmic and large
pieces of ash were falling on us. This has been
a very dry year in Florida, probably because of
the demise of El Nino. Hopefully things will get
back to normal soon with the advent of hurricane
season and some good rain.
