I usually got to WDW the same time every August, usually the first week and then into the second, usually 13 days. Next year I may have to leave a week later, possibly Aug. 12 but am debating on splitting my stay between a week with a friend and then a week in Disney.

Would like to know which is the better week to spend at Disney as far as the crowds. Is better towards the middle or the end?

Thanks everyone!!

I think the later you go in August the better. Our trip started the 13th this last August and the crowds were much lighter than our previous trip in July.

We normally go the last week of August...crowds are pretty good then!

I know our past trip the first week was light and then the second week got alot heavier but that was because I had heard the free dining plan had started during our second week. I'M still not sure what to do yet but I know we're going during the second and third week of August but just have to decide during what week do we stay in Disney, maybe I will go during the second week.

Thanks!!

We went the last week of August this year and I thought the crowds were great - pretty low except on Saturday of Labor Day weekend at the Magic Kingdom. We were very glad we left that day. It was a mob scene!

My family went from 8/20 to 8/29 and the longest we waited was 25 minutes :thumbsup2 for space mountain.

The later in August the better. We were there late August in 2005. It's hot as Hades, but the crowds aren't bad at all.

Later in August do the parks close earlier than usual?

They might close a tad earlier at the very end of August, but you'll get so much more done during the day, you won't mind. I'll never go in July again, August is 100000000000000% better. (might be a slight exaggeration)

We had planned the first week of June... and now I am thinking the third week of August just might be better. But how about hurricanes??

As you can see from my signature in 2004 Hurricane Charley hit WDW so it's a possibility as it is hurricane season there.

Yes I know it's hot as Hades in August but here in NJ when we leave I don't feel like I'm going to anything different as it can get just as hot here at home, it's just the humidity is worse in Florida.

Actually the third week of June is good too but I can never go because schools are still open here in NJ.

We did our first August trip last year and had a great time. We went the 22-29 and yes it was hot and we had an afternoon shower almost everyday, but the crowds were real managable. I would do it again in a heart beat. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone for your tips, I don't make any plans without talking to you guys first, you really are a big help to me every year:thumbsup2

Hurricanes: we were then when Ernesto hit. I was way overhyped. Apparently everyone, or almost everyone, went to Downtown Disney, because there was no one in the parks. We didn't wait in any lines at MGM except for the Great Movie Ride, and that was in the late afternoon. Rain didn't come til 4:30 p.m. All the restaurants were accepting reservations. The rain was finished by the next morning, so it worked out well for us.

Generally mid August onwards the crowds are lighter as many of the schools return after the summer break.
This year we found the Disney Dining Plan changed all that, and it was much busier throughout the whole month than it normally is.

To be honest this was a big dissapointment, as with the hot weather you rely on the parks not being too busy.

I agree. When we were there in Aug. our first week was beautiful and not even crowded and then the second week, BAM!!!! I had found out the reason was the free dining plan started during our second week. What a change in the crowds!!! At least we had one quiet week. Even fastpasses were running out before noon!!
