When I was reading Little House on the Prairie

I missed that series as a child. I read all the books aloud to my kids when they were about 4 and 6. We all just loved them. Talk about family values! I can't read the chapter in Little House on the Prairie where Mr. Edwards is Santa without crying. The 4 year old read her first words from those books...she read the chapter title "Pa's Bet." Of course, the youngest was a baby when I was reading them aloud so now I really need to go back and do it again.

I really loved those books, I've read them all many many times. Can't wait to read them to DS. My parents read them to me on camping trips too!
I got to go to Mansfield when I was young and it really amazed me how short she was! She had all her cabinets lowered to a better height for her.

pjlla, they have a special celebration at Mansfield once a year. I think it's in the fall, but I could check for you if you'd like. Anyway, they take Pa's fiddle out of it's case and play it at the festival. I'd love to be there for that. We went in the summer, so we only got to look at it.

You could easily do Branson in the same trip. They are very close. When we were there the Osmonds still had a show, but we didn't go. I don't know which Osmonds sing there, but I bet there are sites where you can find show listings for the area. They have TONS of shows.

Sonya, they now have aquired Rock House that Rose had built for Laura and Almanzo in Mansfield. They only lived there a few years before they moved back into the old farmhouse that they built, but it was cool to tour it, too.

Glad you guys are enjoying hearing about my trip. It was very educational, and we found loads of fun things to do along the way. Let me know if you ever want to make plans. I have phone numbers, etc for all the museums. Oh and two places have plays that they put on in the summer. We went to both and they were fun.

I love this series and have saved them for DD when she is older. My favorite book was "On the Banks of Plum Creek." (I think that was the name! :) )

My mother read them to me too. I liked them so much, I re-read them several times myself. Then I read them to my children, and have picked them up a couple times as an adult too!

BTW, there are new series telling the story of Laura's Ma, and grandma as children also!

I loved all those books. I can't wait until DD is a little older so I can read them to her.

I loved those books growing up, but my daughters are not interested in them at all. I've tried to get them to read them but no luck.

I checked out your website, it was very interesting--Thanks

I read the books when I was a kid too. When one of the cable stations had a Little House Marathon, I almost spent the entire day watching. My boyfriend, who always said he hated the show, watch most of the episodes with me.:D Guys love Little House!

MerryPoppins, I have PM'ed you about this subject.............P
