When going solo do you rely only on Disney transportation or rent a car?

I live 2 1/2 hours S of WDW & have stayed at POP a couple times & off property for many trips. I really enjoyed the trips at POP where I parked my car on check in day & didn't get back in until after I checked out. I've read that other resorts have transportation issues but I found the buses for POP to be very reliable & never had to wait more than 10 minutes for one anywhere.

I also have no issues w/other forms of internal transportation. It's nice to be able to sit back & let someone else haul you around property. And I enjoy the monorail & boat rides.

On the flip side, I never minded driving too much b/c I don't stay too far off property (15-20 min. max). What I like to do when I drive is park at whatever park I'm going to end the day in & take internal transportation to the park I'm starting out at. I find it works better for me instead of having to make the transfer from tram to car to tram mid-day just to hop from one park to another.

Anyone have experience using the Uber ride service within the WDW resort? I was thinking about getting a rental car for my next trip for two reasons: (1) to spend a day at Universal and (2) in case I want to dine late at a resort.

However, it seems like Uber might be more economical. I heard it launched in Orlando this year.

I was just on the Uber site & searched for service in Orlando. It doesn't look like they've expanded to the WDW resort area.

I have only used Disney transportation for my solo trips. Terrible with directions, hate in traffic and on unfamiliar roads. Being by myself it means I can time my morning to get up and get gone before the buses get crowded without someone else dragging their heels.

The one change I made on my last trip was to ditch the ME for a private car transfer to and from the airport. After a nearly two hour trip from the airport to YC and then arriving at the airport only 1.5 hours before my flight with a huge line at security and having to board the plane starving because there was no time to buy food at the airport, I swore never to use ME again. The car service had me to my hotel in half an hour, same for going back to the airport. I plan to use the same company for my upcoming trip in October. Yes it is another expense, but totally worth it not to lose valuable time in the park upon arrival or be in a panic that I will miss my flight while the bus TV endlessly promises me this is a great experience to be crammed in like a sardine and how I will make it to the airport in plenty of time.

I used Disney transportation when I was solo, but we always rent a car when other family members go along.

I think part of this answer depends on how well you like to drive especially under busy traffic conditions. Then, are you going during a peak period? Finally, is the weather very hot and humid? I like the comfort of a car, but only if someone else is driving, more or less.

I prefer using Disney transportation myself. I will say at the end of the day I may wait for a second bus; so, I can sit rather than stand on the bus. I'm older.

As a female, I have to say I live in fear of a flat tire or car trouble if I was driving alone.

I've done both for solo trips. I like the freedom of having a car. I tend to ride the bus to MK, but I drive to the other parks, the grocery store, to resort hop, etc. This is really a personal choice. I can't stand waiting for buses.

First solo coming up, but I can't imagine driving myself. of course I live in the mountains where seeing 10 other cars in 30 miles is crowded highways! I can zone out the crying kids. Actually it makes me all the happier to realize how lucky I am to be myself
