...look at the screen the entire time, LOOK AT THE AUDIENCE!

Today I had to sit through four group presentations and this was driving me nuts! I love Power Point, but most of the time it seems people just use it as a crutch and put so much text on it that it defeats the purpose. I just find it kind of rude to have someone turning their back to me and reading off the screen.

I know when I present, I want all eyes on ME! Yes it's nice to have the Power Point to list bullets of what you are saying, etc. but I don't want it to become the the main focus of their attention!

And please, please don't read everything verbatim and not add anything to the presentation. It's soooo boring.

I teach in a middle school and part of the curriculm is to teach power point. I have them present their power point and one of the things I teach is to FACE the class and NOT read what is on the power point. The kids do the same thing they face and read into the screen. Hopefully we can start when they're younger and teach them the correct way. ;)

and, here's a tip.
if you need to go BACK a slide...hit the back arrow. (or the arrow key pointing to the left)

for some reason, people I work with dont' know this

That bothers me to no end as well.

Personally I keep real short giving me no option but to face the audience and expand. I barely put up enough to remind me to cover everything.

I've sat through presentations where the group printed out the PowerPoint. Sounds great and all. Instead of talking to the screen, they talk to the paper.

What might be even worse is when the professor you are presenting to isn't even paying attention to you. He'd rather read his email. Made me feel like my Senior Project was a huge waste of my time.
