When gas hit $5, what will you do?

It is over $3 in Houston and it doesn't look like it is any where near the end as far as increases are concerned. It is going up several cents a day and sometimes more than once a day.

If gas gets up $3 a gallon, we'll just have to suck it up and pay it. Basically that means less eating out and fluff spending.

We are watching every dime we spend. Our gas is 2.75 a gallon here and I'm not looking forward to this summer I am so afraid of how high it will go.

I'll be VERY sad. Things are tight for us as it is and my little side trips on the weekends helps relieve some of the stress. I guess that we'll be staying home and cutting back in other areas if it gets that high. :(

:) I don't make unneccessary trips now. I guess if it goes to $5 I'll consider a hybrid.

I'm in Spring and it's only (only - HA!) $2.76 here. I drive 60 miles round-trip to get to work in Atascocita, so it won't feel good to pay more than what I'm already paying, that's for sure.

I sell homes though, so maybe it'll increase my sales. People sure won't want to leave home, when they're forced to pay $5.00 a gallon for gas!

hijack my daughters Electric Scooter and hope that the battery doesn't die before I make it to work, thank god it is all down hill the whole way, the ride home on the other hand well I haven't quite figured that part out yet :rotfl2:

When I drove to the park & ride this morning, gas was $2.75 (for the cheap stuff). On the way home, it was $2.85 - 10 cents in one day! :confused3

We were hoping to do a driving vacation this year, but it looks like maybe just trips to our local amusement park instead. :rolleyes2

well, my son plays on travel baseball/basketball/and soccer, so every weekend from here until August is full of traveling out of town.

We have an Suburban, so I am actually thinking about asking other families if they want to "pool" together. There is just 3 of us, so we could take 4 other people with us.

My daughter and I are are driving with another mother and her daughter to Florida (from Illinois) to get on a cruise ship. WE thought it would be cheaper than flying...HA HA. should have bought the plane tickets!

Live and learn!

Be glad I can buy it whenever I want! I remember gas Rationing and the everyother day deal of the late 70's what a mess and royal pain in the you know what.

So you take 3 people in a Suburban and travel every weekend doing that? Do you have another car? I can't imagine paying for that much gas and filling up that size of a tank for 3 people, sorry. This is EXACTLY why gas prices are going so high, OPEC KNOWS we will buy the gas at a dollar/gallon or $5/gallon. Personally if I were you I would be organizing car pools for the whole team with the fewest cars possible going if gas was $5/gallon. Parents might have to see only a few of the games but it isn't going to hurt anyone.

Sorry, but this just burns me. We know a lot of people that have WAY more car then they need. One couple we know has not one but TWO Suburbans for their family of 3. The parents work at the SAME office and BOTH drive their cars in every day. It is just a shame and a waste of resources for the entire world. Your gas hog car effects EVERYONE in the world.

I also think there may be some lynchings of some Exxon and other oil company executives if gas gets that high.

Well, I work about 1.5 miles from my home, so that doesn't eat up too much gas. DH carpools with his cousin to work (they both work in the same building). Already we are trying to ride bikes for local errands (grocery store, Target, library) but that's mostly for exercise. So, on a day-to-day basis we won't see much difference. It's vacations and road trips that are gonna hurt.

I guess we'll just have to suck it up...take a few less vacations...combine errands in town - that sort of thing.

Definetly trading in the Sentra for a Prius. I'm banging my head against the wall for not going with the Prius last year when I got the Corolla. 60 mpg sure is better than 40 mpg when DH commutes 100 miles to work for the freaking ARMY 7 days a week.

This is why I walk to & from the train station, unless the weather is nasty or I have to take a lot of stuff to the office.

Ouch! She did mention that she's trying to come up with a way to save gas, by sharing her car with others.

That'll help! Maybe someone can go burn a bunch of SUV's in dealerships too! Wait a minute - that bright idea has already been implemented.

I'll cry

In all honesty though I only have to drive when I'm home from school. I'm not bringing my truck up here next year either because the transportation here is good to off campus places, and it's close enough to home that my parents really enjoy the ride. I also don't want to be people's built in shuttle service, and I really don't want to pay $350 for a permit. I will not be happy this summer to be filling up my Explorer though. Not sure that working will even be worth it, because I live about 10-15 miles from anyplace that would actually be somewhere where I could work. No walking for me. I guess I might have to cut down a bit on trips home, but I really only go home for people's birthdays and holidays, so it's sort of hard to cut back on that (every 3 weeks or so).

Well, we won't be in the market for a new car for a couple of years, so I'll keep driving my small, fuel efficient car judiciously for now. But next car we will definitely be looking at the hybrids.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with gas being so expensive. I think it will be better for the environment and will finally prod the government and the automakers to take global warming a little more seriously.

Thank the Lord above that my husband has a company work vehicle, gas included. And I suppose I'll start carpooling to take kids to and from school in the neighborhood.

I hear you but I still won't buy a Hybrib. Too many researchers have shown that hybrids are not that economical on gas. When you have to pay at least 10,000.00 more for a hybrid with absolutely no guarantee that it is NOT helping in gas comsumption then I will just have to wait to see.
