When furniture stores say "6-8 weeks", what do they really mean?

We ordered furniture 4 weeks ago, and I would LOVE to have it next week before a lot of out-of-town company comes. What are my chances? When they say "6-8" is 8 the worst case scenario and it really is usually closer to 6 or even earlier? Or is it normally closer to 8? Or is there no normal?

What are your experiences?

We ordered a sofa and love seat from Lazy Boy, if that makes a difference.

Why dont you call and ask for an eta. I have been working in furniture for almost 6 years.. not a fun subject.

In the last 4 years I have worked for my current company more and more products have been changed to overseas. Seems like every year another plant down south is closing.

I would just call and ask if they can get an update. We have a system that tracks down to the date a piece is being made and can estimate from there.

Friends of ours are expecting and they ordered furniture for the nursery from a local furniture shop. They were told it would take 6-8 weeks, so they purchased it 4 months before the baby was due. 10 weeks later they called to find out what was going on, and were told that "That furniture company is located in AZ (I think) and they only send stuff out when they have enough orders to send a full truckload (to PA)" ! That could take a year for crying out loud! Needless to say they canceled that order and picked a different company.

Now, why on earth wouldn't the local furniture store tell my friends this important little piece of info? My friend is obviously pregnant, and one of the items was a crib, so you'd think the store might realize that time was definitely a factor in this case  .

HA, that is what I was told for our tv stand (matched the rest of the livingroom that we ordered at the same time) from Wolf's. That was the middle of March, Yesterday I got a call that is should be in the middle of next week. Please don't ask me how many weeks that is but it sure as Heck isn't 6-8 weeks.

We got our beautiful new couches today -- 6 weeks to the day from the day we ordered them!

Furniture delivery is a sore subject in this house! We built a new house & I saved & saved to be able to fully furnish it with new things. I was tired of all the relative's hand-me-downs & mismatched things (and things that were just worn out & out of style). Anway.....went on a dream shopping spree to fill the house - the sales guy knew this sale was a big commission for him - and I specifically ordered it all with the condition that it had to be delivered on or after our moving date. I didn't care if it was late, it just couldn't come bits & pieces while moving, or to the old house, why would I pay to have it delivered, store it, then pay to have the movers move it to the new place? Anyway....I was assured, promised, etc. etc. this was fine. 6-8 weeks except the Broyhill special order pieces, that was 10-12 weeks. Fine. So long story short, I'm in the middle of total stress packing & moving, and I get the call that some of the pieces came in & they were unable to store them in their warehouse, it was full, liability, blah blah blah, they HAD to be delivered to the old house or cancelled. ??? This not only happened once, it happened 3 times. it seems like whenever a piece came in they delivered it to the old house, where it sat in the garage for weeks, then had to be moved into storage, then to the new house. I was too stressed to argue. Of course the new house wasn't finihsed in time & we had to live in a hotel (fun fun with 2 little kids) - so we had to pay to store the darn new furniture!

Ok I got off topic here - anyway - after receiving bits & pieces (it did take a minimum of 6 weeks to even get those), some pieces did take 2-3 months. I had a gorgeous new Broyhill master suite set & no bed (had the mattress & box spring though!) .....an ottoman to go with the new sectional...but no sectional....it was all very frustrating! I guess I expected too much going in dropping a gazillion bucks & thinking I could have it all work out in my favor. Live & learn. Let's hope this stuff lasts a lifetime & I never have to get new furniture again. So to the OP - expect anything!
