When does your school start?

We go back the day after Labor day. It is a state law here. DS and I will finish on June 6, but DD will finish on May 31. In our district seniors are done the Friday before the last day of school.

I can't believe she's about to start her senior year!

Today is the first day back for DD, too...We are starting the balanced calendar for the first time this year. We are very excited about it -- DH and I both work full time, so DD spends her summers in various day camps and by this time each year she's sick of them. We are taking advantage of the two weeks off in October for a week-long trip to WDW!

(ps, Chelly, I think we might be neighbors.....:wave2:)

I would love this schedule! We go back Sept 4th and I bought most of the supplies, but will have to wait for a detailed list from the teacher to get the rest. We should get assignments Aug 17-24th.

Clothes shopping will happen in two weeks.

My district start 8/15 and gets out may 23
My kids' district starts 8/27 and gets out 5/31

We have a lot more teacher's days off in the district I work in.

I still have another week of summer school to go. The regular school year starts the day after Labor Day.

In the county where I live there are 3 different type of calendars:

Traditional : August 27 - June 10
Modified :July 23 - May 29 (Breaks in between each 9 weeks)
Year round 4 track model (Tracks 1, 2, 3 started July 9. Track 4 started when Track 3 tracked out on July 30)

My kids are on traditional and are dates are due to law that the tourism lobby pushed through. I miss the kids starting early August and getting out before Memorial day.

My DD is going back Sept 5 and my DS is starting kindergarten *sniff* on Sept 7.
They get out (barring any snow days) on June 18 and June 12 respectively.

I am not ready for back to school quite yet. I don't look forward to the mundane morning and evening routines.

Yes!! A law was pushed through in our state this year by the tourism industry that argued that families would have more time to vacation if school started later. :confused3

Schools are required to be in session 180 days. The days have to come from somewhere.

I really enjoyed the kids getting out around May 19th. Not quite so hot and we could sneak down to Disney before the rest of the nation was out of school for the summer. The kids were going back to school about August 3-5th.

It's so hot here in August I'd rather they were in school in the air conditioning--not much we want to do outside right now.

Aug 27, no clue when we get out. I bought the bulk of 9&7 yr olds school uniforms (very strict dress code for public school) I still need to find some for my 11 yr old... I wish we had "good" jr clothes stores around me... She fits much better into a 0 than a kids 14.

Does your 11 yr old also have the dress code? If so, check out landsend.com or go to your local Sears store for the Lands End department. I bought DS10's clothes online from there and they withstood the whole year for him for oxford shirts and navy dress pants.

August 14th, and I can't wait. :cool1: Don't get out until June 4th or so.
They get a week at Thanksgiving, though. Hmmmm, could be trip time...;)

First day here (in CT) Sept 4th. Last day: June 19th. Of course every snow day we have during the winter adds another day past June 19th, so the reality is we will probably get out somewhere around the 25th, because there are always at least 3/4/5 snow days.

Have you tried Aeropostale? They carry uniform clothing in junior sizes including 0. My oldest daughter wore a uniform all the way through high school and she wore the Aeropostale uniform clothing almost exclusively. She liked the way the polos and the pants fit.
