When does your child start school?

We sadly start tomorrow. I always hate when the kids start school as it makes me very sad to have them gone from me again and the start up of a schedule, homework. Fortunately for me I get over this feeling in a few weeks and we are all happy again by then!:rotfl:

;) we go yr round here- Elementary anyway so- DDs started July 19th and g on their first of 3 cycle breaks Sept 23. We usually get out for the year around June 1. We really like it as do most people here- the kids are ready to go back and the parents are too;) The schools are air conditioned so the only heat issue is the bus ride - the kids get water and a cool towel if it is 95+ the rides are only about 20 min at most.

Middle and high went back Aug 19 or so

My DS5 goes to a Charter School, which is on a modified year-round schedule. They started July 23. But their first fall break starts Sept. 24, for 2 1/2 weeks. So we are checking into CBR on 9/21 -- just in time for Free Dining!!!! :cool1:

Growing up we always went back to school the Wednesday after Labor Day and in my area they still do. I teach in the district in which I live, so I will be going back next week also. I would love to have the balanced schedule described by a PP. I would really like to have off random weeks during the school year. Right now our only options are Christmas week and Easter week for family vacations (summer isn't even an option:sad1: ). I can't imagine our area will ever start before Labor Day because we live at the beach in southern NJ and it is a huge tourist area. Our economy is so dependent upon tourists. Many of the area high schoolers work in these summer businesses and if they started school prior to Labor Day it would probably have an economic impact on those businesses. I would still vote for it however!

9/5 but we go until the last week of June

In upstate NY (waaay upstate - like Albany and north/west), we start with a teacher day (aka meeting day) on the 4th, with the kids coming the 5th. However, our last day this year is June 27! :scared1: I hate that!

My DD had her first day of Kindergarten on Friday. I thought it was weird that the first day was on a Friday but we live on a military base and she goes to a DOD school and the military tends to do alot of things backwards lol

Here in Corona, (Southern) California my DD7 has already been in 3rd grade for 2 months! Yep-our district is year round here (I love it) :cloud9: They have a one week break between grades (falls over 4th of July week) and then start right back up. On her track she is off Sept., Jan, and May. Just so happens to work great with going to WDW in Sept, when crowds are lower and even May and Jan. Plus we are able to visit local area attractions (DL, SW, and KBF, etc.) when the rest of the schools start back up. I love going to DL in the fall-low crowds and now they decorate for Halloween starting around Sept. 21st.

Besides being able to take advantage of the lower crowds and prices during her breaks I like year round since I don't have to think about what to do with her for 3 months during summer break (I work at home). Keeping her occupied for 1 month (at a time) is much easier. And with only 1 week between grades, the kids don't forget everything and have to spend the first few weeks of their new grade relearning everything. I do wish though, that we got 2 weeks off between grade change. :confused3 Also, the only other issue is that the kids last day before Christmas break is Dec. 21. I would like it one week earlier.

I'm probably the latest starter here. Kids in Jersey normally start after Labor Day. We're not starting til Thursday, September 6th because the construction on the school (windows) isn't done til September 1st.

We went back on Aug 6th, but our county uses a "Balance schedule" which really means that every 6-8 weeks, we get at least 1 whole week off. I LOVE it! Our Fall Break is Sept 16-22 which happily coincides with Disney Value season and Free dining! :woohoo:

We're in Cherokee County, and I thought we were the only ones with that week off! We have the same kind of schedule. We go back the first week of August (a week earlier than most of the state) and go a week later in May, but then we have a week off in September (and, yes, it's very well timed for a Disney trip), a week for thanksgiving, two week at xmas, a week in february, and spring break. We're actually homeschooling, so I wouldn't need to care one way or the other, except that my husband's a high school teacher. I really like the schedule. I'd much rather have June off than August, since June is the nicest part of summer here.

We started August 13th in our county in GA. In the next county over, they started a week before us. :scared1:

We're in southern NJ and our kids go back to school September 5th. Seems all the schools in neighboring towns are the same day or a day or two before/after, but all pretty much around the same time.

 Hello from another south Jersey person. I grew up in Cape May County, lived a couple of years out of state and then lived in Monroe Township for a couple of years. When we got pregnant with twins we moved back to Cape May County to be near family. We thought we would need help!:lmao:

We (including myself) start school next week and we are trying to enjoy our last days.:beach: Last week was not beach weather at all and I was really disappointed. I am hoping this last week before school has much better weather.

Here in MI it's after Labor Day. We start the 4th. Just one week from tomorrow! My Kinder is so ready. She gets to meet her teacher tomorrow morning and can't wait to see where she will sit.

Here in Vegas we start today 8/27. DD is doing the new virtual charter school and we are waiting for her curriculum , so we hope to start next Tuesday.

I am pretty sure that Michigan passed a law within the last few years so that school has to start after Labor Day. So, September 4th is the start date in our district. DD starts pre-K on the 10th though.

I used to teach at a year-round school in NC and I LOVED that schedule! We started in the 3rd week of July and got 3 weeks off at the end of Sept./beginning of October, 3 weeks of at end of Dec/Beginning of Jan, and the last 3 weeks of March off. We ended the year in the 2nd week of June and then had 5 weeks before the new school year started. The breaks were long enough that you got a nice rest in without it getting boring. Oh how I wish schools were on a YR schedule here!

Here in our county in SW Virginia my kids started on Aug 22nd. Where did the summer go???????
