I'm getting mixed messages from CRO, so I thought I'd ask you guys this question. I am trying to find out when does the resort charge your credit card for your room & misc. charges. I thought that they put a hold on the account, but not actually charge the credit card until check-out day. When I called CRO, one agent told me that this is what happens, but another said that they charge the balance of your room to your credit card the day you check in and charge it again at check-out for anything else put on the room. Which is which?

I went back and looked at the printout from my last two stays. The charge was made on the check-out day. Not sure if anything has changed since April though.

:)

If your room is prepaid, the charges are done at the end of your stay.

If your room is through CRO with only a one night's deposit, the balance of your hotel room fee is charged at check-in. Then any other charges you incur during your stay (charges to resort ID charge, telephone charges, etc) are put through at the end of your stay (and even after you leave if you have charges incurred after you have checked out).

I agree with GoldenOldie....

We always are charged this way.
We tried to talk them out of it this time, because Amex has a promo on their SkyMiles card that will credit the cardholder with double mileage on the weekends. We were checking in on Friday, and had our 1 night deposit down for the first night. We wanted to pay for our second night on Saturday morning (for the mileage) and the check in desk CMs wouldn't go for it.

Oh well......

also if you reach your limit, they can go ahead and charge your card so you can start out fresh with your limit.

Well, this last time I was there in July it was done differently. Though, the CM might have just done it differently. Our room was paid before arrival. We also had charging privileges against our card. The day before check-out I went to pay my bill to avoid a charge on the credit card ( I had always done this in the past). Lo and behold they had charged my credit card three days prior. I was a bit disappointed because I really wanted to avoid the CC charge. So I was just diligent to make the CC payment as soon as I got home.

The only way they should have charged your card early is if you went over the allowed limit...otherwise it is at the end of your stay.

webray is right. Unless you went over your preset limit per resort level, they should not have charged your card antyhing until the morning of your check out day. I would have been livid, insisted a credit to my card and paid cash/travelers checks.

Also, we have ALWAYS been charged the room balance at check in, including any $$ for hopper passes that were bought on check in, and the rest of the charges at the end of the stay. When our rooms have been paid for on arrival, we have left a credit card (they only authorize it for $1-and there is no holds placed on it) for express check out and then we have been only charged on the day of check out (very early in the am) for all of our room charges.

Last trip(we stayed at AKL) we were charged the room balance upon arrival and the room charges when we checked out. I found it helpful to keep a running tab of all our room charges, this way I knew what we were spending.

Have a great trip!!

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but if you buy your park tickets upon checkin, that charge will also be made immediately to your credit card. Likewise, purchases like e-night tickets (and probably CP packages) will go through immediately. It's only charges you incur in the room (like phone calls) and things you charge with your room key that are charged the day you check out or when you reach your preset limit (whichever comes first). If you do want to pay off those charges before they go through to your credit card, do it the night before you check out because they can do the charge early in the morning.

If you continue to make purchases to your room key later that day, you'll see 2 charges from the resort's front desk on your credit card statement. The first will be early in the morning for all the charges incurred during your stay, and the second will be for all the charges incurred after they ran the first charge until midnight that day.
