when does school start

We USUALLY start the Wednesday after Labor Day. This year, due to construction of the elementary schools in my town, school won't begin until September 13.

SEPTEMBER 13!!! YIKES!!!! What am I going to do to entertain these kids? Oh, wait, we'll go to Disney World! (Sorry, I just couldn't resist!).

We have a trip planned for September 3-19. We're telling the kids in about 2 weeks.

We too are starting a bit later this year. We normally go back the Wed. after Labor Day in Sept, but this year it will be Sept 13. We got out June 24th this year. I'm amazed at the extremely varied school calendars across the country. As far as I know, every public school is in session 180 days, but I guess it can be any days the school district chooses.

We are about 50 miles south of Atlanta and we start Aug. 2nd. Two weeks from today. We get out May 27th I believe. We have a week "fall break" in Oct and one in Feb as well as Christmas and Spring break.

I think we start earlier/end sooner due to the heat. JMO

here in CT, at least in our town, my dd starts Aug 25th and the last day is June 6th or 8th I believe.

We're starting the week before Labor Day this year too, for the first time that I know. I think it might be due to the fact that Labor Day is so late this year. School starts 8/31 and is scheduled to end 6/7-6/8.

North Carolina has a bill that just passed the state senate and is waiting for the gov. to sign that says school cannot start before Aug. 25 nor end after June 10th. This year our county ended on June 19th and goes back Aug. 16th. Should be interesting to see how they implement it.

We start Sept 7, the day after Labor Day and are scheduled to end June 15, unless it snows.

I wish it started sooner, DS is already bored of summer.

We live outside of Pittsburgh and start school on Aug 25. I'm not sure of the date to get out, but it will be around Jun 10.

Too soon here........we love summer vacation! Aug. 23 is their first day and they go thru the last week of May.

Minnesota - day after labor day, get out June 9th.

(Which means when the kids get to can't pull them out of school age, I guess it'll be late August.)

DS5 starts kindergarten on August 30th. I am not looking forward to this. LOL

We live in the Western suburbs of Chicago and our kids go back on Aug 30 and get out on June 8th (DS b-day!!) We have a 1/2 week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas and 1 week spring break at the end of March. No fall break here.

Dd goes back to school the Thursday after Labor Day, no idea when she will get out. We do not receive the school calendar until the 1st day of school. This past year though she got out on 6/15, so it will probably be around then again (unless we use a lot of snow days.)

Here around Dayton, OH schools typically start around Aug 24 and finish up the first week of June. We do have some year-round schools that started the new year this week.

Called my DD16 school and was told the Calendars were ready for this year so I just stopped by at lunch. I want to surprise them with a spring vacation. HMMM Disney cruise or short 5 day trip. School begins Sept 2 and ends June 24 with snow days June 17 without.

I have preplanning Aug 3-5. The kids start back on Friday, August 6th. We will get out May 20. Summer is just WAY too short!!
